Anupam Kher REACTS after Ahmedabad bullion firm's owner gets duped of Rs 1.6 crore with fake currency carrying actor’s photo: 'Kuch bhi...'

As a dedicated follower and admirer of Anupam Kher’s exceptional talent and resilience, I can’t help but feel a twinge of concern seeing him unwittingly involved in such an ordeal. This man, who has graced our screens with his presence for decades, now finds himself featured on counterfeit notes! It’s almost as if the roles have been reversed – instead of playing characters on screen, he’s becoming one in real life!

Bollywood actor Anupam Kher responded to news that forged banknotes with his likeness on Rs 500 denominations, instead of Mahatma Gandhi’s, were discovered in Gujarat. The Ahmedabad Police confiscated approximately Rs 1.60 crore worth of these fake notes. In the shared videos, Anupam Kher’s image replaced Mahatma Gandhi’s on the fake bills, and instead of “Reserve Bank of India,” it read “Resole Bank of India.” Since then, clips of these counterfeit currency notes have been widely shared on social media platforms.

Can you believe it? I found myself pictured on a five-hundred rupee note instead of Gandhiji! Unbelievable, anything could happen!” (Paraphrased as an excited and shocked fan.)

Based on The Indian Express report, it was found that Mehul Thakkar, the proprietor of a bullion firm, was swindled for approximately 1.60 crores. An unidentified group is now being investigated in connection with this case in Ahmedabad.

According to the report, Thakkar told the police that a group showed interest in buying 2,100 grams of gold and wanted it delivered to Navrangpura district within the city. Thakkar’s employee then transferred the gold to two suspected individuals, who gave him a plastic bag as payment. The suspects stated the bag contained approximately Rs 13 million in cash.

The individuals involved in the case offered explanations, claiming they had to acquire the outstanding 30 lakh rupees from a local store before disappearing. Later on, one of the workers at the bullion firm discovered the fake currency bills. At present, the authorities are working on solving this issue.

Additionally, the suspects asked for the total sum to be calculated using an automatic counting device. Simultaneously, as reported by the police, these two people left the shop with the gold, stating they would return later to collect an additional Rs 30 million from a nearby establishment. Yet, upon inspection by Thakkar’s staff, it was found that the plastic bag contained fake banknotes instead.

A case has been filed at the Navrangpura police station. In an interview with The Indian Express, Inspector A.A. Desai stated that the suspects had orchestrated a scheme to deceive the bullion firm. He noted that even the courier service used for the gold delivery was fraudulent, lacking a registered rental agreement.

The individuals under suspicion had leased the store and hung up a false sign for a courier business, promising the landlord they’d finalize the lease paperwork shortly. However, the money they handed over was fake currency depicting Anupam Kher. As of now, no arrests have been made, and the probe remains active.

In his professional life, Kher recently appeared in the courtroom drama “Kaagaz 2,” which premiered on March 1, 2024. This sequel to “Kaagaz” is directed by V.K. Prakash and features a strong cast that includes Darshan Kumar, Satish Kaushik, and Smriti Kalra.

At present, Anupam Kher is dedicated to his impending production titled “Tanvi The Great,” which falls under his company, Anupam Kher Studio. It was previously announced that Iain Glen will assume a substantial part in this movie.

Kher gathered an illustrious group, with MM Keeravani, a winner of the Oscar for Best Original Score, and Resul Pookutty, a recipient of the Academy Award for Best Sound Editing, being part of it. The inclusion of Iain Glen in the cast has further fueled anticipation for the venture.

He is also set to appear in another film, Vijay 69, expanding his diverse slate of projects.
