Anurag Kashyap admits leaving with ‘folded hands’ after a streaming platform wanted to turn his new show into Money Heist

Anurag Kashyap is well-known in Bollywood as one of the highly respected movie directors. He’s renowned for being involved in various successful projects, whether behind the camera or in front of it. He’s not afraid to express his feelings openly, and he has done so again recently. A streaming platform wanted to transform one of Anurag Kashyap’s shows into Money Heist, but he chose to leave instead.

In a recent chat with The Hindu, Anurag Kashyap shared that he had penned a movie intended for Malayalam actor Mohanlal. His long-time collaborator, Rajeev Ravi, was supposed to direct it. Unfortunately, the venture didn’t come to fruition, so Kashyap reworked the plotline for the film “Kennedy,” starring Sunny Leone and Rahul Bhat.

As a lifestyle expert, I’d like to share an intriguing tidbit: I had the pleasure of hosting undercover cop Uday Shetty, Kennedy’s central character, for quite some time, a fact narrated to me by Sudhir Mishra. Intriguingly, ideas for a sequel web-series are brewing in my mind, where this captivating character manages to survive the Kennedy event.

The director mentioned casually that he had attempted presenting another series to a streaming service, disclosing that the platform expressed strong interest. However, the comments he received were deemed overly cautious and heavily reliant on algorithms.

In a recent discussion, I found myself at an impasse when my vision for a project was met with a stark deviation towards Money Heist. As a lifestyle expert, I believe that each production should maintain its unique essence. So, when faced with this predicament, I chose to gracefully withdraw, folding my hands and stepping away. Interestingly, Anurag mentioned that the content we create is molded by data sheets, which are based on real-time user behavior patterns.

Furthermore, he discussed the postponement of Kennedy’s premiere, a movie that has been shown at renowned film events like Cannes and MAMI. Kashyap mentioned that Kennedy’s release was delayed because of financial difficulties at Zee Studios, and he acknowledged these kinds of challenges.

In a recent statement, the director of “Gangs of Wasseypur” confirmed that the movie has been approved by the censors and is now finalized. Interestingly, it was disclosed that Zee Network suffered financial losses with their most recent film releases. Additionally, those who financed the production of this film have since departed from the company.

Personally speaking, much like Anurag, I’ve encountered comparable hurdles in my initial projects that resemble his movies such as “Black Friday” and “Gulaal.” Regrettably, my first full-length production, “Paanch,” is yet to see the light of day.
