Film director Anurag Kashyap frequently expresses admiration for the South Indian film industry. During an interview with TopMob in 2023, he mentioned that if he had been born in Tamil Nadu or Kerala, his films would have likely been more successful at the box office. However, because he works primarily in Hindi cinema, he has limited control over this. In another interview last year, Kashyap announced plans to relocate from Mumbai by 2025.
In an exclusive conversation with The Hindu, the individual renowned for creating the Kennedy brand revealed that he has departed from Mumbai. He explained his decision by stating, “I’ve chosen to distance myself from the film community. The environment in the industry has become extremely unhealthy. People are relentlessly pursuing unattainable goals, aiming to produce the next billion-dollar film. The creative ambiance is all but lost.
Without disclosing where he now resides, Kashyap confirmed that he’s already taken care of the first month’s rent on his new city apartment. There are whispers that he has relocated to Bengaluru. Last year, during an interview with The Hollywood Reporter India, Kashyap mentioned his intentions to migrate towards Southern India as the excitement of filmmaking seems to have diminished in Bollywood.
In response to an inquiry, Anurag Kashyap expressed, “I’m planning to leave Mumbai next year, as I feel it’s necessary. Similarly, I admire Southern filmmakers because they have the freedom to explore and innovate, but it often entails a financial cost for me.
At the moment, the well-known filmmaker is actively publicizing his latest Malayalam production titled “Footage,” starring Manju Warrier as the main character. Simultaneously, he is supporting a Kannada film project and has plans to appear on screen in two upcoming South Indian films.
