As a dedicated fan of captivating storytelling and remarkable performances, I am beyond thrilled about Apple TV+’s adaptation of Marissa Stapley’s best-selling novel, “Lucky.” With Anya Taylor-Joy, who has proven her acting prowess in critically acclaimed series like “The Queen’s Gambit” and “Furiosa,” taking on the lead role, this limited series promises to be a masterpiece.
The streaming service Apple TV+ has acquired the rights for a television series based on Marissa Stapley’s hit novel “Lucky.” Actress Anya Taylor-Joy will be portraying the main character.
The upcoming limited series, which Emma Corinne Taylor-Joy (famously known for her roles in ‘Furiosa’ and ‘The Queen’s Gambit’) will be an executive producer of, is being produced by Apple Studios and Reese Witherspoon’s Hello Sunshine. This project was initially a selection for Reese’s Book Club in 2021. Jonathan Tropper, who has previously worked on Apple’s ‘See’ and the upcoming ‘Your Friends & Neighbors’, is the creator of this series and will share the role of co-showrunner with Cassie Pappas (known for her work on ‘Silo’ and ‘Griselda’).
Taylor-Joy is embarking on her second collaboration with Apple; she’s additionally featured in the upcoming movie titled The Gorge, which is scheduled for release next year. Similarly, Witherspoon has ties with Apple TV+ through The Morning Show, where she both stars and serves as an executive producer.
Reese’s Book Club was launched with the aim of fostering stronger relationships – with the stories themselves, their creators, and the community we are developing. It’s a joy to help boost these female-focused narratives and their authors, watch our audience resonate with them, and then witness them flourish on screen. We’re thrilled about teaming up with Apple TV+, the remarkable Anya Taylor-Joy, as well as Jonathan Tropper, our talented creator, and his exceptional co-showrunner Cassie Pappas, to adapt this engaging series from Marissa Stapley’s terrific book for global viewers.
Fortunate is set to feature Anya Taylor-Joy portraying a woman who grew up immersed in a life of illicit activities but has since distanced herself from that realm. In a last-ditch effort to break free from her haunting past, she will be compelled to revisit her dark, criminal persona.
Taylor-Joy expressed excitement about becoming part of the ‘Hello Sunshine’ team, along with Jonathan, Cassie, and Apple TV+, as they work together to develop ‘Lucky‘ – a project that supports women’s voices,” she stated.
Under the overall agreement with Apple TV+, Tropper will serve as executive producer through his production company Tropper Ink, joined by Pappas, Witherspoon, and Lauren Neustadter from Hello Sunshine, as well as Taylor-Joy via her firm LadyKiller.
In a series of accolades, Anya Taylor-Joy has triumphed in the Screen Actors Guild, Golden Globe, and Critics Choice awards, and was nominated for an Emmy for her role in “The Queen’s Gambit” on Netflix. She is set to appear alongside Chris Evans, Salma Hayek, and Brendan Fraser in the upcoming movie titled “Sacrifice”. Some of her more recent projects include “The Menu” and “Dune: Part Two”. Taylor-Joy is represented by CAA, The Way Management, and Felker Toczek.
