As a dedicated fan of Stephen King‘s works and a connoisseur of cinematic masterpieces, I wholeheartedly endorse “Disclaimer*” on Apple TV+. Having followed the legendary author’s recommendations over the years, I can confidently say that this series is no exception. Despite the initial slow pace in the first episode, King’s words hold true – stick with it, and you’ll be engrossed.
If you’re a fan of Stephen King, the renowned horror writer known for your beloved books, he has a new recommendation for a thrilling series to check out – “Disclaimer” on Apple TV+. However, be warned that it might take a bit to get into the first episode.
Among the busiest celebrities on a platform once known as Twitter, King consistently shares positive comments about newly released shows and films he’s viewed. It’s worth noting that King has recently voiced criticism towards shows such as Teacup and Evil, and movies like The Rule of Jenny Pen and Rebel Ridge.
King posted the following on X: “DISCLAIMER (Apple+): The first episode is a little slow, but stick with it and you’ll be engrossed.” It didn’t take long for his followers to react to his appraisal of Disclaimer, and replies ranged from the usual replies targeting King’s political stance to other users claiming they will now pay for Apple TV+ as a streaming service, because if the King says it’s good, then it’s probably good, right?
This miniseries features Cate Blanchett, Kevin Kline, Kodi Smit-McPhee, Sacha Baron Cohen, Louis Partridge, Lesley Manville, and Art Malik in the cast. The series is adapted from Renée Knight’s novel with the same title, and Alfonso Cuarón was in charge of both writing and directing every episode. Known for films like “Gravity,” Cuarón collaborated with his frequent cinematographer, Emmanuel Lubezki. Additionally, Bruno Delbonnel, whose work is recognizable from movies such as “Amélie,” “The Tragedy of Macbeth,” and “Inside Llewyn Davis,” also contributed to the team.
The miniseries made its first appearance at the 81st Venice International Film Festival and the 2024 Toronto International Film Festival. Critics from the industry who got a sneak peek of Cuarón’s psychological thriller expressed favorable opinions. Following its launch on October 11 on Apple TV+, the series has garnered a strong 78% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

Disclaimer* Marks Alfonso Cuarón’s Highly-Anticipated Return to Television
Alfonso Cuarón’s filmmaking journey primarily revolves around feature-length movies. This highly acclaimed Mexican director has made a significant impact in Hollywood, winning an Academy Award for Best Director for his masterpieces, “Gravity” and “Roma”. Interestingly, since his debut in 1991 with a Mexican romantic comedy, he’s only directed eight films over a span of 33 years – a fact that stands out. His storytelling skills are exceptional, as evidenced by the critical acclaim many of his films receive upon release.
Despite a significant expansion in TV programming over the past 25 years, Alfonso Cuarón has only been involved with four television shows: “La Hora Marcada”, an episode of the neo-noir anthology “Fallen Angels”, running and directing roles for the now-forgotten NBC series “Believe”, and currently, “Disclaimer”. However, due to his earlier projects being less successful, the reception for this latest series is particularly favorable by comparison.
New episodes of Disclaimer* release every Friday night on Apple TV+.
