In Season 5, one duo that sparked interest among fans was Lydia Velez Gonzalez and James “Milton” Johnson IV, not only for their compelling narrative but as the lone couple from the season to exchange vows in reality.

Lydia and Milton quickly found common ground due to their professional backgrounds – Milton being an energy industry engineer and Lydia a geologist who studies rocks. However, their bond appeared strained during the show’s progression when Lydia identified her ex-boyfriend, Uche Okoroha, among the contestants by his voice. Among all the couples from their season, it’s just Milton and Lydia who are still a married pair today. They made their commitment official during Season 5, and since then, they’ve navigated through highs and lows, even facing a stretch where they were apart for some time.

Milton and Lydia did a long-distance marriage for a few months

Following the broadcast of Season 5 of “Love Is Blind” in late 2023, Milton found himself needing to relocate to Long Beach, California for work. This lengthy assignment kept them apart for several months and amplified their exposure to public scrutiny, similar to other “Love Is Blind” couples. Despite the distance, they managed to maintain their relationship by taking turns visiting each other. As Milton shared in an interview with People in 2024, “Last year I was working on a project that required me to live in California for four months, while Lydia would visit every two weeks or vice versa, staying for about a week each time.” Fortunately, Lydia’s job had an office in Long Beach as well, which made their long-distance situation more manageable.

Beyond his work-related travels, Milton also pursued a Master of Business Administration degree, leading to a change in their daily routine as a couple. Despite both having demanding careers, this didn’t diminish the time they spent together, although it might not have been as much as they desired. As Lydia told Entertainment Weekly, “We miss each other so deeply that every moment we share, we make an effort to truly appreciate and be present for one another when we are physically together.” Having Milton home from work instead of alone is a welcome relief for her.

They live together in Houston

According to Lydia’s Instagram updates, the couple who had been apart for several months due to a long-distance marriage now reside in Houston together. They’ve been spotted in various locations like Dubai, and they even reunited with other “Love Is Blind” cast members to promote the series at SXSW in 2025. Lydia doesn’t frequently post pictures of them, but when she does, it’s usually capturing moments from their shared travels and festive occasions, often with both of them grinning for the camera. The images show glimpses of their trips and holiday celebrations.

In May 2024, the couple marked their second wedding anniversary by embarking on a trip to Fredericksburg, Texas. Lydia organized the event, including a log cabin stay. In an interview with People, they expressed their plans to keep traveling as they moved forward in their marriage, and mentioned their desire to buy a home. They also highlighted how well they suit each other. Lydia said, “He always shows up.” Despite his busy schedule, he finds time to offer me the attention and emotional support I need, regardless of my mental state.
