As a gaming enthusiast based in Helsinki, I’ve had the pleasure of witnessing a massive transformation right in my backyard – the overhaul of Finlandia Hall, one of our nation’s iconic modern architectural marvels, by the skilled architects at Arkkitehdit NRT.
Constructed back in 1971 primarily for hosting congresses and events, Finlandia Hall stands as an iconic structure designed by Alvar Aalto – a renowned Finnish architect and designer highly regarded in modern times. This building is also a significant representation of the monumental architecture that emerged during the later stages of Aalto’s prolific career.
The renovation maintains the building’s historical character by blending contemporary amenities into its design. Architects NRT have kept the marble-adorned exterior and some of Aalto’s original furnishings intact. This comprehensive overhaul not only updates the building to current specifications but also adds new facilities like a restaurant, wine bar, lodging spaces, an exhibition area, and a design store – all aimed at making Finlandia Hall more inviting to the public.
Finlandia Homes offers an exceptional chance for visitors to reside within a renowned architectural landmark. These lodging apartments blend practical Finnish design with a cozy ambiance, featuring classic furniture like the Aalto’s Aztek stool.
The revamped Finlandia Hall is now open. Take a look around the venue in the gallery above.
