As a long-time watch enthusiast and sports fanatic, I must say that yesterday’s performance by Armand “Mondo” Duplantis at the Paris 2024 Olympics was nothing short of breathtaking! Not only did he defend his title with grace and skill, but he also shattered records and left us all in awe.
At the Paris 2024 Olympics yesterday, Armand “Mondo” Duplantis managed to retain his Olympic title. This 24-year-old Swedish athlete not only earned another gold medal but also broke his own world record in pole vault by achieving a height of 6.25 meters. While many spectators were captivated by Duplantis’s muscular form during his jumps, watch enthusiasts might have been more intrigued by something else on his left wrist — the unique timepiece he wore.
During the event, Duplantis sported a recently released Seamaster Aqua Terra 150m watch, a timepiece that was made available by OMEGA post-event. Known as the “Ultra Light,” this watch comes in a 41mm sandblasted Gamma Titanium case and features a sandblasted silicon nitride bezel ring. The dial of the watch is blue anodized, with titanium materiality, and it’s adorned with blackened hands and hour markers filled with lume.
The design features bright yellow highlights for a striking and attention-grabbing appearance, which are evident in the Seamaster text, the central second hand, OMEGA logo on the crown, and the strap and stitching. This vibrant color scheme is inspired by the Swedish flag and the uniform worn by Duplantis during the competition.
Through its transparent casing, you can see the hand-wound Co-Axial Master Chronometer Calibre 8928 Ti at work, offering an impressive power reserve of 72 hours. This timepiece is housed in a unique presentation case with a zipper, which proudly bears the name of Armand Duplantis.
The Omega Seamaster Aqua Terra “Ultra Light” model can be purchased for a price of $51,300 USD and can be inquired about on the official Omega website or at their retail stores.
