As a seasoned gamer of television and film industry news, I can’t help but feel a surge of excitement upon hearing about Armando Iannucci‘s latest venture with Touchscreen Ltd., in partnership with BBC Studios. Having made his mark on the political satire landscape with shows like Veep, The Thick of It, and The Franchise, it’s clear that this man knows how to deliver biting wit and insightful commentary on the absurdities of our world.
Armando Iannucci, known for shows like Veep, The Thick of It, and The Franchise, has teamed up with BBC Studios to establish Touchscreen Ltd., a new production company. On Monday, they announced a UK-based collaboration for developing projects together.
In a statement, it was announced that BBC Studios and Touchscreen, established by Armando Iannucci, will collaborate to create and jointly produce groundbreaking and bold scripted content suitable for both the U.K. and global markets. This content will be distributed by BBC Studios.
Working together with Iannucci at Touchscreen, you’ll find his longtime partner and producer, Kevin Loader, as well as development producer, Charlotte Draper.
The newly formed collaboration is dedicated to nurturing and advocating for emerging British artists, both in front of and behind the camera, while also sharing universal stories that strike a chord worldwide,” the partners stated.
Iannucci stated: “Touchscreen aims to create projects that mirror, challenge, or praise our contemporary world. I am delighted to carry on my collaboration with HBO, and with Touchscreen, I have the chance to foster emerging creative minds and concepts. It’s exciting to team up with BBC Studios for this endeavor, given my background at the BBC. The goal of Touchscreen, with BBC Studios’ backing, is to provide others a platform to discover their voice and connect with their audience, while producing shows that are bold, thought-provoking, and inspire us to reevaluate our world.
Mark Linsey, president of scripted at BBC Studios, expressed his pleasure about the collaboration between BBC Studios, Armando, and Touchscreen. He emphasized that nurturing fresh British talent is crucial for our creative sector’s future, and he’s eager to see the new talent and innovative storytelling we can create together.
The deal was brokered by Lucy Fairney at PBJ Management.
