As a seasoned gamer with a soft spot for period westerns and a knack for predicting Hollywood comebacks, I can’t help but feel a mix of anticipation and skepticism regarding Armie Hammer‘s return to the big screen with “Frontier Crucible.
After facing numerous allegations of sexual misconduct, Armie Hammer is making a comeback on the silver screen.
Hammer will be appearing in the period western movie titled “Frontier Crucible“, which is being directed by Travis Mills and produced by Dallas Sonnier.
Throughout my career, I’ve been focused on creating gritty indie films like ‘Bone Tomahawk’, ‘Brawl in Cell Block 99’, ‘Dragged Across Concrete’, ‘Muzzle’, and ‘The Standoff at Sparrow Creek’. I’ve had the privilege of collaborating with esteemed actors such as Kurt Russell, Vince Vaughn, Mel Gibson, Jason Sudeikis, Guy Pearce, Aaron Eckhart, Don Johnson, Stephen Lang, James Badge Dale, Steve Austin, and others. Excitedly, I’m looking forward to teaming up with Armie Hammer on ‘Frontier Crucible’, as I shared this news with The Hollywood Reporter on Wednesday.” (Sonnier)
On his Instagram account, Hammer playfully hinted at his comeback in the film industry by posting pictures from the set of “Frontier Crucible” and a script page spread on the ground. His reentry to show business comes after the grandson of oil tycoon Armand Hammer rose to A-list status in Hollywood, but faced personal struggles that led him into self-imposed exile.
In early 2021, incriminating texts with multiple women about sexually explicit matters were made public, which marked the beginning of Hammer’s decline. In the same year, a woman named Effie claimed that he raped her in 2017. Later on, two more women spoke up, alleging that Hammer had emotionally abused them to such an extent that they needed treatment for post-traumatic stress disorder.
Hammer argued that all the relationships involved consensual sadomasochism, yet admitted to being emotionally abusive towards the women. After an examination, the District Attorney of Los Angeles County decided not to charge Hammer in 2023 due to lack of sufficient proof.
In his return to acting, the movie “Frontier Crucible” features Thomas Jane. This film revolves around an ex-soldier who is forced into an alliance with outlaws, a woman, and her wounded partner as they traverse the treacherous Arizona wilderness in the 1870s. Facing both nature’s harshness and hostile adversaries, their journey becomes a desperate struggle for survival.
Information about Hammer’s role in the upcoming western, which also features Myles Clohessy, Zane Holtz, Mary Stickley, and Eddie Spears, has yet to be disclosed. Sonnier will produce the independent film, titled “Bonfire Legend,” scheduled for shooting in Arizona during November under his Bonfire Legend banner.
Hammer’s comeback includes a podcast, The Armie HammerTime Podcast, unveiled earlier this week.
