This cult classic has been a staple in my Halloween movie marathons, and I’ve eagerly anticipated its arrival in high-definition for far too long. Known as one of the top Halloween horror films ever produced, Michael Dougherty’s “Trick ‘r Treat” has gained a devoted following and is eagerly awaited by fans each year. Will We Ever Get Trick ‘r Treat 2?

Featuring stars like Anna Paquin, Brian Cox, and Dylan Baker, Trick ‘r Treat harkened back to timeless classics such as Tales from the Crypt and Creepshow, which added to its appeal. Its unique anthology style was a refreshing change during a period when sequels, found footage films, and remakes ruled the box office, making it distinct from others. Moreover, it introduced a new horror icon through Sam, the tricky little demon in footie pajamas and a burlap sack, who served as the link between the film’s various segments.

Since its release as a beloved horror film, fans have yearned for a sequel, a desire shared by director Doughterty himself who announced the follow-up as early as 2013. However, changes in management at Legendary Pictures, the production company, led to a long delay, leaving the project stuck in development limbo. Nevertheless, the director reassured fans in 2023 that the movie is still “in progress,” and further stated that it remains an active project.

I can assure you that not only do we possess multiple versions of a script, but I’ve also rehired the storyboard artist I previously mentioned, Simeon Wilkins. This means we now have an abundance of storyboards and a pile of stunning concept art courtesy of Breehn Burns.

It seems that Trick ‘r Treat 2 might not be released anytime soon, as no release date has been announced yet. However, the upcoming 4K release of Arrow may generate more interest among those with the financial control, potentially speeding up the production process. Since its initial debut 17 years ago, it’s had ample time to cultivate a dedicated fanbase who are eager to support it and ensure its success at the box office.
