As FBI Replaces Katherine Renee Turner's Tiff, Here's What The Actress Previously Said She Was 'Excited To Continue' In Season 7

As a long-time fan of FBI, I must admit that the departure of Tiff, played by Katherine Renee Turner, leaves me with a mix of emotions. On one hand, I’m excited to see how the show will evolve with a new character joining the team, but on the other, I can’t help but feel a sense of nostalgia knowing that Tiff won’t be a series regular anymore.

The FBI won’t be back on CBS until fall 2024, approximately two months from now, after its Season 6 finale showcased an “unhinged” Tiff character as described by her actress. Regrettably, Katherine Renee Turner won’t reprise her role for the upcoming seventh season. Instead, a new actor has been cast to take over Tiff’s position within the team.

As a gaming enthusiast, I couldn’t help but recall an intriguing tidbit from my favorite actress’s chat with TopMob. She hinted at her anticipation for Season 7, contrary to the expectation that character Tiff would be a permanent fixture. However, before we dive into the surprises ahead, let’s tackle the business at hand!

FBI Is Moving Forward Without Tiff

Katherine Renee Turner won’t rejoin FBI as a regular character in the upcoming season, Deadline reports, but she may still appear in at least one episode of Season 7. This could mean that the popular CBS drama will provide Tiff with a proper on-screen departure and a satisfying ending for Turner, who has been integral to the series since Season 3. Over the last three seasons, Tiff has formed a strong partnership with Scola, much like Maggie and OA.

News about Turner’s departure from the FBI emerged only a few hours ago, coinciding with the announcement (via Deadline) that Lisette Olivera, previously seen on National Treasure: Edge of History, is set to join the series as a regular character named Syd. This character, who was trained in the Behavioral Analysis Unit and initially had a desk job, will now transition into working in the field.

After the recent announcement concerning Tiff, it has been revealed that Syd will take over as Scola’s replacement partner when the position becomes available. Given her impressive background and demeanor, it is possible that her lack of experience in the field might not present a significant challenge.

Although there’s been quite a bit of information released regarding the upcoming debut of the new agent, which is at least two months away, we don’t have any details yet on why Tiff is leaving. As I couldn’t find out more recently, I decided to re-examine an interview from the spring where I had the chance to talk with Katherine Renee Turner about the Season 6 finale instead.

What Katherine Renee Turner Told Us In The Spring

Despite the FBI yet to disclose any information about why Tiff won’t be a regular in upcoming seasons, Katherine Renee Turner appeared hopeful that she would return for Season 7 during our conversation in May, following the sixth season finale. The finale episode heavily featured Tiff and concluded the storyline that had been developing for her character since the start of Season 6.

The final episode was quite challenging as Tiff faced some of her team members questioning her abilities, but she stepped up to the plate and successfully resolved the case. Scola supported her throughout, and as per Katherine Renee Turner in May, developing their partnership with co-star John Boyd was something Scola looked forward to continuing. In her own words:

Working with John has been truly fantastic! From the start, their dynamic was rich and complex, but delving deeper and discovering fresh dimensions and textures has been incredibly enriching. This experience has pushed me beyond my comfort zone, fostering growth as an actress, and I’m eager to keep exploring this fascinating character further. There’s so much potential yet untapped!

In Season 6, Scola and the character Nina from FBI: Most Wanted didn’t always intersect significantly within their primary storylines, but as new parents, they certainly clashed at times, much like two individuals rubbing heads together. Yet, they formed a strong bond on the team, reminiscent of Maggie and OA. When I pointed out to Turner in the spring that Tiff and Scola had distinct backstories and unique personalities, she acknowledged it by saying:

It’s interesting how, despite originating from distinct backdrops, there seems to be a shared perspective or approach between them that enables a connection. They both exhibit a desire to grasp things beyond themselves, and this mutual understanding helps them navigate their relationship, even when one is providing constructive criticism to the other. All in all, there’s a great deal of promise in their union.

Occasionally, the FBI can shuffle its partnerships, so you won’t necessarily see Tiff/Scola or Maggie/OA together in every episode. I personally enjoy watching Maggie and Tiff work as a team, being the two female field agents in their unit, and Katherine Renee Turner feels the same way. She stated:

Absolutely, I feel the same way! I’m eagerly anticipating our next collaboration. It’s not something that occurs frequently, but working with her on the finale was truly rewarding. Missy is an exceptional actress who demands a lot from the process. She seeks truth, and any actor would be fortunate to have such a partner in their pursuit of authenticity.

It’s quite possible that Tiff and Maggie won’t have another chance to team up or we might miss seeing Tiff and Scola collaborate if Katherine Renee Turner appears only once in Season 7. The number of episodes she’ll be part of is yet to be determined, but let’s hope there’s room for her return as long as Tiff’s character doesn’t meet a tragic end. Turner herself expressed gratitude when the show was renewed for three more seasons back in April, describing it as a blessing.

At present, enthusiasts of the FBI series have the opportunity to revisit the initial six seasons, which encompass the three seasons featuring Tiff so far, by subscribing to Paramount+. Additionally, alongside FBI: Most Wanted and FBI: International, the original FBI series will air again on CBS on Tuesday, October 15.
