According to Turner’s account, his diagnostic journey started when he consulted an orthopedic doctor about a shoulder injury he sustained. He initially discussed the matter with Theresa Nist in February, but it wasn’t until March that he received an official diagnosis. In his own words:

In the aftermath of the news I received, I yearned for a sense of normalcy, which led me to cherish time with my loved ones above all else – my family, including my two daughters, their partners, and my granddaughters. While finding balance with Theresa was still significant, it took a backseat as I reevaluated what truly mattered. After the initial shock subsided, I began to focus on what held importance for me, which helped guide my steps forward. In hindsight, I believe this realization played a significant role in shaping both our decisions, and I hope people can appreciate its impact on my choices now.

A cancer diagnosis can weigh heavily on any marriage, but Theresa and Gerry had only just begun their life together. They were looking to move in their own home in South Carolina following saying their “I dos,” but according to Gerry Turner, the major life news made him decide not to uproot his life.

As for his role in the breakup, I can’t definitively say, but I do know it wasn’t a deciding factor. The primary reason was the distance between us, but there were other contributing factors as well. I won’t go into more detail about those.
