Few individuals can boast about their birthdate being February 29, but Peter Scanavino, a long-standing star on Law & Order: SVU, is one of those exceptions. This versatile actor, who graces our screens every Thursday night as part of the 2025 TV lineup, has been an integral part of Dick Wolf’s nine-show universe for over 200 episodes. Interestingly, he played multiple characters before securing his role as Carisi. Thus, it’s only appropriate that the official Instagram account for the entire Law & Order series extended their birthday wishes to him.
Reflecting on the post and recent updates about Law & Order: Organized Crime, it’s bringing back memories of how he portrayed Carisi, Peacock, and his use of strong language. Interestingly, since 2025 is not a Leap Year, the Instagram account could only acknowledge Scanavino on the nearest available date within his birth month, which was February 28th instead. Have a look:

Happy birthday, Peter Scanavino I love you!!
Reflecting on the actor’s recent celebration, I reminisced about his portrayal in a significant storyline from Season 26, which I had the privilege to discuss with him. During that conversation, I also seized the opportunity to pose an unusual question, considering the anticipation for updates on Law & Order: Organized Crime. Given that Scanavino had previously appeared on Christopher Meloni’s show during its NBC days, and considering that Organized Crime might have more freedom in language on Peacock compared to network TV, I wondered if Carisi, a character known for his professionalism, would ever resort to swearing.
Well, I asked that very question back in January, and Peter Scavanino had thoughts:
Absolutely, it’s safe to say he occasionally uses strong language. [laughs] My answer leans towards affirmative in this case.
I can’t wait any more for some SVU characters to join the cast of Organized Crime once it debuts on streaming! The release date has been set for April 17, so the anticipation is growing. Scanavino shared his thoughts on his significant storyline from Season 26 when we spoke earlier this year, stating:
This process is wonderful since it offers an opportunity to delve deeper into understanding your character’s complexities. It allows exploration of what motivates them, their preferences and aversions, their concerns and indifferences, and even their fears. Engaging in this exercise has given me a fresh perspective on Carisi, a role I’ve played for 11 years now, making him feel more like a real person whom I genuinely care about.
With a Peacock subscription, you can stream older seasons of Law & Order: SVU. Meanwhile, catch the latest episodes every Thursday at 9 p.m. Eastern Time on NBC.
