As Outlander Approaches War And Season 7’s Finale, I’m More Invested In William After Charles Vandervaart’s Comments About An Intimacy Coordinator On Set

As a dedicated fan of Outlander, I must say that the latest episode featuring William (played by the talented and charming Adam Sinclair) has truly left me captivated. His journey from a young, naive man to someone who’s willing to risk everything for love is nothing short of inspiring.

William’s life experience shines through in his scenes with Jane, portrayed beautifully by Silvia Presente. Their chemistry is undeniable, and it’s clear that they’ve put a lot of thought and care into their performances. The intimacy coordinator on set was a wise decision, ensuring both actors felt comfortable and confident during the more intimate moments.

The risk William takes in this episode, putting himself in harm’s way to protect Jane and Fanny, speaks volumes about his character development. It shows that he’s matured, grown stronger, and learned to put others before himself. I can’t help but admire his courage and resilience.

Now, let’s not forget the humor – it seems that every time William appears on screen, something unexpected happens! In this episode, it was his encounter with Hessians that has left us all on the edge of our seats, waiting to see if Lord John and Young Ian can save him in time.

I eagerly anticipate the penultimate episode of Outlander Season 7, titled “Written in My Own Heart’s Blood.” Given the title, I have a feeling that we’re in for one heck of a rollercoaster ride! And who knows, maybe William will finally get his happy ending – or at least a moment of respite from all the chaos. Fingers crossed!

As a devoted fan of Outlander who has faithfully followed the series from its very first episode, I must caution fellow enthusiasts: brace yourselves for potential spoilers ahead! The upcoming Season 7 episodes 1 to 14, aptly titled “Ye Dinna Get Used To It,” are filled with unexpected twists and turns that will leave even the most ardent viewers shocked. So if you’re not ready to venture beyond Season 6, I suggest treading lightly or risk having your cherished theories shattered!

The seventh season of “Outlander” is nearing its end as per the 2025 TV schedule, a fact that seems to come too quickly following the extended gap between the first and second halves. However, I must admit that the recent episodes have been nothing short of exciting. Each installment introduces new characters, some of whom are recognizable to history enthusiasts in the U.S. (and fans of Lin-Manuel Miranda’s “Hamilton” musical). Interestingly, after the episode titled “Ye Dinna Get Used To It,” I found myself more engrossed in William’s narrative than the one centered around Claire and Jamie’s encounters with George Washington and Lafayette.

As a movie enthusiast, I’ve been hooked on William’s journey, especially with the unexpected chaos that Sam Heughan hinted at in the plot twist. Add to that the sudden appearances of Jane (Silvia Presente) and young Fanny (Florrie May Wilkinson) within his tent, and a shocking plan to take his life by Hessians in Episode 14. All these elements have me on the edge of my seat, eagerly awaiting the penultimate episode. Reflecting on Charles Vandervaart’s conversation with TopMob about an intimacy coordinator on set makes me even more intrigued about how this series handles sensitive scenes and character development.

Let’s start with the latest for William in the final episode of 2024!

How Episode 14 Set Ups William Possible Capture

In the aftermath of William’s involvement in some terrible actions as mentioned by Vanderaart, a bleak destiny looms over him unless Lord John can reach him promptly. Unaware that the message he received from Captain Richardson contained orders for his capture, William was tasked to deliver it to a band of German mercenaries who were fighting on behalf of the British.

According to Wainwright (who is also known as Lord John’s stepbrother or suspected former lover), the intention was to force John and his brother to participate in the war effort by sacrificing William’s life. Claire had information indicating that Richardson was a British spy working for the Americans, but Jamie couldn’t simply abandon his position as a general, so he agreed to release Lord John and send him with Young Ian on a mission to try and save William.

Unfortunately, William had already made it to the Hessian encampment, leaving him isolated and vulnerable since he was greatly outnumbered and unaware of any incoming help from John or Ian. The situation is tense and concerning as we approach the finale in mere weeks, but I can only hope that the story wraps up in time for William to reunite with Jane and further develop their plot before the end credits grace Season 7.

William’s Storyline With Jane And Fanny

In “Ye Dinna Get Used To It,” William appeared more accepting that Jamie is his biological father compared to a few episodes prior, returning to his duties of delivering letters. However, his encounter with Jane seemed to have slipped his mind for a while… until she unexpectedly appeared in his tent with her sister, having escaped from the brothel after Captain Harkness’s return.

Eventually, she admitted that Harkness had given a substantial amount of money to assault Fanny, primarily because of Fanny’s virginity. In the end, Jane murdered the British officer to prevent him from harming her sister. Afterward, they made their escape through a window and found themselves in William’s presence. William asked her not to run away from the camp, assuring her that he wouldn’t betray her. This narrative temporarily halted so that William could hand-deliver the crucial letter intended for Richardson, hoping that he would return soon and not unwittingly step into a trap.

After the recent events, the storyline involving Jane and Fanny is even more captivating. However, the reappearance of Charles Vandervaart alongside Silvia Presente brought me back to their interactions in Episode 12, specifically his remarks about an intimacy coordinator. It also made me ponder how much more engaging Outlander could be if it further developed their storyline.

Charles Vandervaart On Outlander’s Intimacy Coordinator

In Episode 12, viewers might recall that William seemed troubled, prompting Charles Vandervaart to advise TopMob that his character required “counseling” or help at the very least. This predicament reached its peak when Arabella, who was working under a different name in the brothel, seduced him. Though he willingly took part, William felt it compromised his integrity. The Outlander series has shown many intimate scenes, but this instance was significant for William’s character development.

I discussed with Vandervaart about arguably the most significant episode for William’s character throughout the series thus far, including the hinted-at sensual scene from the unexpectedly steamy trailer that was released several months ago. Considering that Sam Heughan and Caitriona Balfe had both praised having an intimacy coordinator on set starting in Season 6, I wondered if this was also a part of Vandervaart’s experience while filming William’s scene with Jane. In response, he confirmed:

Indeed, during the filming of a particular scene in that episode, we collaborated extensively with an intimacy coordinator to ensure our comfort and clarity regarding boundaries. Sylvia and I felt at ease throughout the process, setting parameters for what was acceptable and what wasn’t. The intimacy coordinator’s presence made me feel confident, and I believe that both of us were content with how the scene unfolded and the actions involved. However, I cannot speak for Sylvia, but I remember we were both pleased with the final outcome.

The actor pointed out that the scene was undeniably tense, particularly for a novice actor, hinting at both himself and Silvia Presente. Moreover, he mentioned that this type of scene differed from those intimate moments he had acted in previously during his career.

Previously, I’ve filmed intimate scenes, yet none compared to the intensity and explicitness shown in this particular episode. I ensured my comfort throughout the process, and I must say it went smoothly. It’s beneficial to have a team member who can halt production or call for a cut whenever needed, as there was someone advocating for me. In light of this experience, I believe intimacy coordinators are crucial, and I’m grateful we had one on set with us.

For quite some time now, dedicated Outlander enthusiasts will recognize that Starz isn’t shy about displaying some skin in their love scenes. I personally found the scene between William and Jane to be artfully balanced, offering ample visuals without overstepping boundaries, a sentiment my companion concurred with.

In my opinion, it wasn’t unnecessary; I agree with your assessment. The way it was presented was subtle and classy, which I appreciate because I prefer not to expose too much on screen just for the sake of exposure. Instead, I want it to serve a purpose and contribute to the storyline in some manner. And I believe that’s exactly what it does in that scene.

In “Ye Dinna Get Used To It,” William and Jane didn’t advance beyond a kiss, as he preferred only to act when she was the one desiring it. Overall, I believe the actors share a compelling chemistry that effectively portrayed their scenes in Episode 12, laying the groundwork for their relationship in Episode 14. This careful build-up of their initial interactions leaves me hopeful for what’s to come between them.

What’s Next For William?

As someone who has been following this series religiously, I reckon it’s a shrewd guess that we won’t hear about William and his handling of Jane and Fanny’s predicament until the next-to-last episode. With Young Ian and Lord John trying to rescue him from Hessian captivity being the current priority, it seems the writers have more pressing matters at hand. I suggest you keep an eye out for the promo to catch a sneak peek of what’s in store.

Don’t miss Starz this coming Friday, January 3rd, for episode “Written in My Own Heart’s Blood,” the second last episode of Outlander Season 7. Since this title mirrors the eighth book in Diana Gabaldon’s series with the same name, it’s safe to say that the finale next week will be packed with significant happenings, exciting fans everywhere!
