As Star Trek Voyager Celebrates Its 30th Anniversary, Kate Mulgrew Shares Solemn Request With Fans Regarding L.A. Wildfires

30 years ago, Star Trek: Voyager first graced our television screens, but this anniversary comes amidst tough times for Hollywood, as the L.A. wildfires have forced a halt to filming and left many celebrities, including Kate Mulgrew of Voyager, grappling with the effects and sorrow of this disaster. In response to these events, Mulgrew has made a heartfelt plea to fans.

As fans wait to stream Star Trek: Section 31 with their Paramount+ subscription next week, Mulgrew had a plea for fans on her Instagram page. As she revealed, her child lost a lot in the fires, and she detailed the devastation in a post:

My child, Alec Egan, has tragically lost everything in this devastating fire. His home, his workshop, and all his art creations have been destroyed. Upon witnessing the remnants of decades of dedication (and passion, and the beginnings of two new lives), he expressed: ‘It’s beyond comprehension that all those years, all that life, has been reduced to nothing but a pile of ashes.’

Regardless of their fame, it must be heart-wrenching to see one’s child endure such a distressing ordeal. At present, Alec Egan finds himself bereft of his creative output and the familiar environment of his workshop, and he lacks the home where he nurtured his two children. I can scarcely conceive of bearing so many hardships all at once, and I understand her desire to support her son in whatever capacity she is able.

In essence, Kate Mulgrew reaches out to Star Trek enthusiasts with a special appeal and opportunity. The captivating actress extends a distinctive offer to fans visiting her site if they buy a print from it, which is quite charming.

We’d be delighted if you think about buying a customized poster from his recent solo exhibition in LA at Anat Egbi Gallery. Just head over to @anatebgigallery’s website and check out their online store for prints. If you wish, Alec will sign and personalize the print for you. And if you bring the print to any of my upcoming events, I’ll be more than happy to add my signature, free of charge. We appreciate your kindness and support very much. Even in the face of adversity, the human spirit remains indomitable – it will always prevail.

It’s cool to own a photo from an unexpected moment in Star Trek: Voyager. However, what makes it even more meaningful is buying a print that directly contributes to Kate Mulgrew’s son’s needs, and then having the opportunity to meet her at a convention and get her signature on it. I can only imagine the sense of appreciation she would feel, beyond what she already feels for fans who continue to admire her work today.

Mulgrew was met with empathy and encouragement from the majority of Instagram comments, which is heartening. However, some people misunderstood when Mandy Moore shared her brother-in-law’s GoFundMe page, perceiving it as a request for fans to donate rather than herself. While it isn’t mandatory for celebrities to disclose their contributions beforehand, it’s reassuring that she hasn’t faced the same criticism in this situation.

Currently, there’s an exciting possibility for fans of “Star Trek: Voyager” – Kate Mulgrew might reprise her role as Captain Janeway. This could occur if the show “Prodigy” gets renewed for a third season or if she appears in live-action again. Mulgrew has expressed interest in returning to live action, but only under specific conditions and with a well-written script. For now, however, her focus is on supporting her son during this difficult time and helping him regain some semblance of normalcy following a tragic event.

You can now stream “Star Trek: Voyager” on Paramount+. Fingers crossed that a “Voyager” film might still be under consideration next year. Perhaps this would be the perfect moment to make an announcement, especially given a significant anniversary of the series approaching.
