As a dedicated gamer and binge-watcher of TV shows who’s seen more plot twists than I can count, I must say that the departure of Robin Weigert from Tracker has me scratching my virtual controller in confusion.
In the 2023-2024 television season, “Tracker” emerged as a standout success, with Justin Hartley rejoining prime time following “This Is Us” in a leading part. The series initially featured a compact group of characters due to Colter Shaw’s job involving frequent travel and weekly appearances by new guest stars. However, the cast size has subsequently diminished. As we approach the resumption of the show in the 2024 TV lineup, it has been announced that Robin Weigert will no longer be a series regular on “Tracker.”
Robin Weigert, famously recognized from her role in the Deadwood series, subsequently appeared in Justin Hartley’s CBS show. In the first season, she portrayed Teddi Bruin, one of Colter’s handlers, alongside her on-screen wife Velma, played by Abby McEnany from Work in Progress. According to TVLine, Weigert has left the series, but as of now, CBS has not provided any clarification regarding how Teddi’s departure will be handled within the storyline.
According to Showrunner Elwood Reid’s previous hints, the Season 2 premiere could potentially involve a captivating part for Velma (without explicitly mentioning Teddi), and there’s speculation that Jensen Ackles might appear as Russell Shaw. At this stage, specifics about the plot are not fully disclosed, but it appears the decision for Weigert to depart may have occurred during the summer break.
At CBS’s celebration for their new fall schedule in May, the actress joined forces with Justin Hartley, Abby McEnany, Eric Graise, and Fiona Rene. This event was a festivity marking the return of shows during the 2024-2025 television season. Here’s a peek:
As a long-time fan of mystery shows, I can’t help but speculate about the future of Colter and his crew in Season 2 of Tracker. Having watched countless series where characters meet untimely ends, I can’t shake the feeling that tragedy might be lurking around the corner for this group.
Given that my earlier concerns about Season 2 turned out to be unfounded, let’s not jump to the bleakest conclusions just yet. It’s important to remember that TVLine has only reported Robin Weigert won’t return as a series regular; there’s still a chance she could reappear as a recurring or guest star, which might explain Teddi’s absence at the start of Season 2. For now, it remains uncertain whether the new season will find us already in a world without Teddi.
In Season 1’s final episode, they laid the groundwork for an intriguing plotline involving Colter in the upcoming season. However, it didn’t provide any hints about what may transpire for Teddi and Velma. The finale was quite impactful, as it unveiled a shocking truth about Colter’s sister, who had previously made clear her disinterest in the mysteries surrounding their father’s demise.
Justin Hartley powered through a “grueling” schedule for the first season, which certainly paid off with an early renewal and impressive ratings. CBS already delivered some good news for fans of the show over the summer, as Season 2 will premiere two weeks earlier than initially announced. You can look forward to the first episode of the 2024-2025 TV season on Sunday, October 13 at 8 p.m. ET. In the final weeks before the premiere, you can also revisit the full first season streaming with a Paramount+ subscription.
