Lata Mangeshkar and Asha Bhosle are two iconic singers in the Indian film industry who significantly influenced global views about the Indian music scene. In a recent chat on the podcast “Couple of Things” with actress Amrita Rao and her husband RJ Anmol, Asha Bhosle shared the reason behind their choice to wear white sarees.
The singer of “Dum Maro Dum” once mentioned that they used to wear white sarees because they believed it was the only color that flattered them. In her words, “We would appear darker if we wore any other color.
Nevertheless, the seasoned vocalist disclosed that she had taken to donning pink saris. Yet, her elder sister, the late Lata Mangeshkar, would offer her a subtle glance of disapproval. Regardless, she persisted in choosing vibrant hues, such as pink.
During the same interview, the singer known for “In Ankhon Ki Masti Ke” shared that her relationship with her elder sister was notably different between home and public settings. Asha explained that at home, her sister was quite ordinary, conversing informally and loudly. However, outside their home, she would speak formally and softly, returning to being Lata Mangeshkar in public. In essence, Asha stated, “At home, we had a casual relationship and spoke Marathi. But as soon as she left the house, she transformed back into Lata Mangeshkar.
In a straightforward and conversational manner: The singer of “Parde Mein Rehne Do” clarified that despite sharing the same profession, there was no familial connection between them when it came to singing.
