As a longtime fan of Ashlee Simpson, I’m thrilled to hear that she’s back in the studio working on new music! After taking a hiatus following her 2008 album “Bittersweet World,” it’s exciting to know that we can expect some fresh tunes from this talented artist.
Following the release of her 2008 album “Bittersweet World,” Ashlee Simpson has announced that she is currently working on new solo music.
Simpson, set to launch a broadened version of her initial album “Autobiography” on Friday in commemoration of its 20-year anniversary, confided to Stereogum that she’s presently engrossed in creating new music in the recording studio. When probed if it would be an album, she disclosed cryptically, “For now, I’m focusing on individual songs, but we’ll see about that.” She hinted, though, that it might eventually develop into a full-length album.
Regarding the question of whether her new music would maintain the pop punk style from her past records, Simpson commented, “I’ve matured since then, so this album is more refined. For now, it leans towards a live music feel, but I believe the genre could evolve. I’m content with where we are currently and describe it as having a lively, rocky atmosphere.”
The singer of “Pieces of Me” revealed her preferred choices for musical collaborations. She mentioned her fondness for working with artists such as Alanis Morissette, Fiona Apple, and Jewel, who are considered classics in the industry. However, currently, she is particularly drawn to Chappell Roan’s talents. She expressed admiration for Roan’s album, “The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess.”
She also addressed her infamous Saturday Night Live lip-sync flub, sharing the silver lining of the embarrassing situation. “There was a lot of backlash, and I think that what I mostly experienced was discovering my strength in myself and also in my fans because they were so loyal to me — the fact that I got to get up, fight and they all watched me do that and come to my shows,” she said.
Previously, Simpson shared with Distractify in March that her daughter Jagger Snow was the driving force behind her decision to get back into music. “She’s the reason for my excitement,” Simpson expressed. “My little girl truly wants to sing with me, so I will ensure she joins me in the recording studio.”
sixteen years have passed since Simpson put out a solo album, but she teamed up with her spouse Evan Ross as a duo in 2018 under the name Ashlee + Evan. They released an EP at that time which aligned with their brief E! reality show by the same title.
