Traversing the realm of Assassin’s Creed Shadows sans a horse is somewhat similar to engaging in combat without an armament; it’s technically possible, but it’s definitely not the smartest strategy.
There’s plenty to discover by walking through this extensive map, but you’ll find yourself traveling along lengthy, open pathways for most of your journey.
In this game, you have the ability to call your horse whenever and wherever you need. However, be aware that if you’re not familiar with the controls, there’s a chance you could inadvertently whistle at hostile characters instead.
Before venturing further into feudal Japan in Assassin’s Creed Shadows, take a moment to learn the correct way to summon your horse:
1. Press the ‘Up’ on the D-pad or the mouse wheel (depending on your platform) to call your horse.
2. If you are in combat, press ‘X’ (PlayStation) or ‘A’ (Xbox) to dismount, then follow the same steps to summon your horse again.
3. To switch horses, press ‘L1’ (PlayStation) or ‘LB’ (Xbox) to open the horse wheel and select the desired steed.
4. Remember that you can also use your horse for evasion by pressing ‘Circle’ (PlayStation) or ‘B’ (Xbox) while mounted.
5. Have a safe and successful journey in feudal Japan!
How To Call Your Horse in Assassin’s Creed Shadows
In Assassin’s Creed Syndicate, making your horse approach you becomes straightforward when you grasp the correct technique; however, the game doesn’t provide a clear guide on how to do this.

You can call your mount almost anywhere on the map, but pressing the button isn’t enough.
To get your horse’s attention effectively, don’t just give it a quick tap; instead, keep the summon button pressed for a moment. On a PC, you’ll want to hold down the ‘X’ key, whereas console users should press and hold the D-pad.
Instead of repeatedly tapping the keys to produce a whistle, which is primarily used to mislead or attract adversaries, remember that it won’t call your mount. If your horse fails to appear, it might be due to you pressing the key rather than holding it down.
Once you’ve mastered it, either Naoe or Yasuke will quickly mount their steed upon its appearance. From there, with just a few instructions, they can set off on their journey.
To gallop, press the ‘Shift’ key on a PC, the L3 button on a PlayStation, or the left stick on an Xbox. Conversely, to dismount, hold down the ‘C’ key on a PC, the ‘Circle’ button on a PlayStation, or the ‘B’ button on an Xbox.
The controls make covering long distances, dodging enemies, and slipping away for stealth simple.
Mastering the art of summoning your horse is quite straightforward. Just make sure you have the perfect timing and remember which button to press, and voila! It becomes as simple as a walk in the park.
There’s also a Pathfinder system in the game to guide you during rides.
