1 Million players have jumped into Assassin’s Creed Shadows within 24 hours, demonstrating a robust debut for Ubisoft’s newest installment in the series. This achievement has me genuinely optimistic about the future of the franchise, particularly with the upcoming title, Assassin’s Creed: Hexe, on the horizon.
In my gaming world, I’m diving into the next chapter, nicknamed Assassin’s Creed: Neo (working title). This time, I’ll be exploring the Witch Trials era in the Holy Roman Empire, roughly around the 17th century – a good hundred years after Shadows.
The game’s details are scant, but it seems certain that its themes will center on the mysterious world of the occult, witchcraft, and superstition. Since Ubisoft typically avoids overt magic in their main titles, except for Isu-related elements, it promises to be intriguing how they handle witches and dark arts from a more realistic standpoint.
Back then, even before its official unveiling on September 10, 2022, enthusiasts were already scrutinizing the game’s emblem, teased by Ubisoft. The message they deciphered was: “We labor in the shadows for the sake of light.” This phrase echoed a long-standing motto for seasoned gamers. The pentagram was encircled by another inscription: “Mephisto, avenge this domain.” This undeniably suggested a connection to satanic elements within the Brotherhood.
A sense of intrigue shrouds Hexe, offering Ubisoft a vast playground to explore fresh concepts. The 17th century was no walk in the park for free spirits in the Holy Roman Empire, which has me on the edge of my seat, wondering how the Assassins will maneuver through this era of suspicion and oppression.
In a possible scenario, the backdrop might be an expansive representation of the Nuremberg area or any other part within the grand Holy Roman Empire. Given Ubisoft’s penchant for creating vast and immersive settings, it wouldn’t be surprising if they bring Germany to life with breathtaking accuracy.

I’m looking forward to more than just the setting and historical background of Hexe from Ubisoft; I’m excited to see how they develop the characters as well. Although I’m not an expert on the Holy Roman Empire, it would be interesting to have a female protagonist this time instead of the dual character system like in Shadows. Maybe the Assassin in Hexe could excel in deception, politics, and manipulation, leveraging the widespread panic of the era for their benefit.
Regardless of the outcome, I am fully committed – I’m absolutely thrilled for the upcoming game. Fingers crossed that Shadows’ triumphant reception encourages Ubisoft to continue developing this series.
For now, you’ve got lots to explore in Assassin’s Creed Shadows, as there’s still much more from characters like Naoe and Yasuke to discover, particularly with the imminent release of the first expansion pack, Claws of Awaji.
