Atomfall Makes History That Could Soon Be Forgotten

News just came out that the survival-action game Atomfall, developed by Rebellion and released last month, has now been played by over 2 million people. This announcement follows the game being named as their most successful debut title in the studio’s 32-year lifespan.

In the time we spent with Atomfall, it was evident that it was crafted with immense love, attention, and pride. Therefore, Rebellion rightfully deserves this milestone they’ve achieved. Yet, I find myself pondering that its shine might dim soon, given the anticipation for a bustling and thrilling phase in the gaming community which lies ahead.

Fans are flocking back to Monster Hunter Wilds after its initial free update, Assassin’s Creed Shadows remains a massive hit, and the upcoming launches of GTA 6, Battlefield, Crimson Desert, and Nintendo Switch 2 (among others) are causing quite a stir.

Upon assessing Atomfall, we found that although it showed promise, it struggled to make an impact due to limited in-game diversity and lack of fresh ideas. Sadly, this didn’t keep us engaged for long. This could potentially be a challenge for Atomfall moving forward, as the year 2025 promises a barrage of ambitious games and console launches, all striving to push the gaming world into new heights.

Despite the current buzz around Atomfall, its inability to hold interest might ultimately lead to its demise and eventual obscurity within the upcoming months. Regrettably, this seems to be a common fate for numerous games this year, not only Atomfall. If a game doesn’t leave a lasting impression, it risks fading into insignificance due to intense competition.

Even though it might not be the ideal moment to introduce a new video game, such challenging situations excite us as gaming enthusiasts. It’s during times like these that studios are driven by ambition and competition to create remarkable games that will keep conversations going for years. Regrettably, I don’t anticipate Rebellion’s latest offering to live up to that standard, but I’m grateful they’ve enjoyed some success before the stakes get higher.
