‘Attack on Titan’ Director to Helm Netflix's ‘THE ONE PIECE’ Anime

As a seasoned anime enthusiast with decades of viewing under my belt, I must say that the production staff lineup for THE ONE PIECE remake leaves me absolutely thrilled! The fact that Masashi Koizuka, director of Attack on Titan, is at the helm is already a game-changer. But add to that Hideaki Abe, who’s worked on Jujutsu Kaisen and Mob Psycho 100, and you’ve got a team that’s about to redefine the genre!

In December, Netflix announced they’d create a new version of “One Piece” called “THE ONE PIECE.” During a live stream for “The One Piece Day ’24,” it was disclosed that this anime boasts an impressive team behind the scenes.

Netflix, in collaboration with WIT Studio, has recruited Masashi Koizuka, renowned director of “Attack on Titan,” to take charge as the series director. Hideaki Abe, known for his work as an episode director on “Jujutsu Kaisen” and as a key animator in shows like “Mob Psycho 100,” steps into the position of assistant director for this project.

In the context of One Piece being predominantly focused on adventure and action, esteemed animators like Ken Imaizumi (known for Boruto) and Shuhei Fukuda (renowned for My Hero Academia) are among the list of contributors. Additionally, Takatoshi Honda, who served as the animation director for The First Slam Dunk, has taken on the role of the series’ chief animation director.

Excitedly speaking as a die-hard fan, I can’t help but feel thrilled about the upcoming ONE PIECE anime series being produced by WIT Studio! It’s truly a dream come true to see that talented individuals from their previous acclaimed projects have been brought on board for this new venture.
