Attack on Titan Reigns Supreme in New Top 5 Franchise Ranking Over 10 Years

It turns out that IG Port’s anime franchise has been a tremendous money-spinner, according to their official financial report, surpassing all other ventures in earnings over the last ten years.

In the first three quarters of its FY2025, IG Port reported the substantial copyright earnings accrued from their productions spanning from June 2015 to February 2025. As the umbrella corporation for WIT Studio (responsible for “Attack on Titan” Seasons 1-3) and Production I.G (behind “Ghost in the Shell” and “Haikyu!!”), their income stemmed from various sources such as licensing anime to streaming platforms, Blu-ray sales, merchandising, video games, stage plays, and more. Topping the list was “Attack on Titan” with 2.188 billion yen (roughly US$15.4 million), closely followed by “Haikyu!!”, and then “Ghost in the Shell”. You can explore IG Port’s other top-grossing titles, categorized as entire franchises and individual seasons, below for further insights.

As a passionate anime enthusiast, I recently stumbled upon an intriguing compilation on Reddit, detailing the top-grossing titles annually from 2015 to 2025. Interestingly, “Attack on Titan”, “The Ancient Magus’ Bride”, “Ghost in the Shell”, and “Spy x Family” each managed to secure the highest earnings for a couple of years apiece. On the other hand, “Haikyu!! “and “Great Pretender” held the top spot once. What truly caught my eye were the years when “The Ancient Magus’ Bride”, “Spy x Family”, and “Haikyu!!” surpassed the average gross significantly – June 2018, June 2024, and again in June 2024 for “Haikyu!!”.

During those years, the popularity of shows like “Spy x Family” and “Haikyu!!” was significantly boosted by the successful films “Code: White” and other releases on Crunchyroll. Notably, both seasons 2 of “Spy x Family” and season 1 of “The Ancient Magus’ Bride” premiered during their respective peak years. In 2023, IG Port received approximately 200 million yen (US$1.4 million) from Bushiroad Works as compensation for the termination of Kore Yamazaki’s contract for “The Ancient Magus’ Bride” manga. This allowed Yamazaki to move from IG Port’s Mag Garden to Bushiroad, where she could continue her series.

From where I stand, it’s quite evident that “Attack on Titan” is poised to hold a robust stance for the 2026 edition of IG Port’s rankings. As a member of Production IG’s production committee, the series stands tall, especially after the massive success of “Attack on Titan: The Last Attack,” which raked in an impressive $18 million at the box office from its recent theatrical release this week. And with the sequels in the works, it’s safe to say that the storyline is far from reaching its end.
