Aubrey Plaza Was Separated From Husband Jeff Baena Months Before Death, New Report Reveals

According to recent reports from the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner, Aubrey Plaza and Jeff Baena had already parted ways several months prior to Baena’s passing in January.

Following their separation in September 2024, Baena made statements that raised concerns for Plaza, causing her to contact a friend for a wellness check on her spouse in October, according to a report obtained by The Hollywood Reporter.

According to reports, Baena was said to have begun attending therapy sessions due to the challenges they had been facing in their marriage in the time period prior to his passing.

The coroner’s report further mentioned that Plaza got a text from her deceased spouse at 10:36 a.m. Eastern Time on the day of his passing. Subsequently, Baena’s body was found within his Los Angeles residence by his dog walker later on.

According to reports from the coroner’s office, director-writer David Baena, famed for films like “I Heart Huckabees” (2004), “Life After Beth” (2014), “Joshy” (2016), “The Little Hours” (2017) and “Horse Girl” (2020), took his own life on January 3.

2021 saw the secret marriage between Plaza and Baena after a decade-long relationship. After his passing, the actress and his family released a heartfelt statement expressing their grief: “This is an unfathomable loss. We are profoundly appreciative of everyone who has extended support to us. Kindly honor our request for privacy during this difficult period.

Next month, an alum from “The White Lotus” made her first public outing since Baena’s passing, at the 50th anniversary special of Saturday Night Live. In this brief appearance, Plaza paid tribute to her late spouse by wearing a tie-dye shirt. It was mentioned earlier that the couple had worn tie-dye during their impromptu wedding.

The Hollywood Reporter has reached out to Plaza and Baena’s reps for comment.
