As a gamer with a soft spot for art and community spirit, I must say that Felipe Pantone’s Auction for Action initiative is nothing short of inspiring. Coming from someone who has experienced the devastating aftermath of natural disasters, I can only imagine the heartbreak and resilience the people of Valencia are going through right now.
Artist Felipe Pantone, originally from Argentina but based in Spanish Valencia, and his team have started a charitable project to support communities affected by the catastrophic floods that hit Valencia. In a single day, the city received a year’s worth of rain, leading to the tragic loss of at least 217 lives. Artists from various parts of the world have united in an effort to gather relief funds following this disaster.
The concept for Auction for Action arose in Pantone’s mind following the destruction of his own studio by the DANA storm. Yet, it’s important to note that none of the collected donations will be used to restore the studio. Instead, Pantone and his team are collaborating with local organizations, such as the Coloring the World Foundation, and ongoing recovery efforts, in order to guarantee that the funds reach those areas hit hardest by the storm.
As a gamer, I’m thrilled to share that this auction spans from an affordable €300 EUR ($323 USD) up to tens of thousands! Artists like Pantone, Ana Barriga, Okuda, Demsky, Jaime Hayon, and PichoAvo are part of the lineup, with even more contributions on the horizon. Can’t wait to see what’s next!
Just like how the Valencians unite in support of one another, I’m appealing globally to focus on this distressing event. By joining forces, we can help a devastated community rise again – one that was completely wiped out and now needs to be reconstructed starting from scratch.
