2025 looks promising for the box office with numerous blockbuster movies lined up, but the film expected to make the biggest impact isn’t due until late in the year, namely Avatar: Fire and Ash. Already, Bob Iger has had a sneak peek at James Cameron’s production and is quite impressed.
In simple terms, we’re still a ways off from seeing the third movie in James Cameron’s Avatar series, as it’s not scheduled until December. It seems post-production work is taking some time. Some have caught early previews of Fire and Ash, and Cameron himself has shared that it moved his wife to tears for hours. During Disney’s 2025 Shareholders Meeting, Bob Iger mentioned he’d seen an early version too, and his brief comment left me quite intrigued. Iger stated…
And having seen an early cut of the film, I can tell you that it is absolutely breathtaking.
As a devoted cinephile, I can’t help but notice the significance when Bob Iger, Disney’s CEO, lavishes praise on one of their upcoming films. While it’s understandable that he’d express optimism about a studio project, the enthusiasm he shows for a film is often indicative of its potential success.
For instance, during his quarterly earnings calls, Iger was consistently effusive in his praise for “Inside Out 2,” and as we all know now, it went on to become the highest-grossing animated film ever made. So when Iger speaks highly of a movie, it’s worth paying attention.
Fans are eagerly anticipating “spectacular” or “awe-inspiring” experiences with the “Avatar” films, as they have compensated for their simpler storylines with breathtaking visual effects. The success of these movies at the box office is partly due to audiences paying extra to watch them in 3D, and with comments like Iger’s, it seems like a 3D viewing is definitely on the cards for me in December. If only I could rewatch the first two films in 3D on Disney+.

As of now, the plot details about “Avatar: Fire and Ash” remain scarce. However, it’s been revealed that the film will shift the setting to a volcanically active region of Pandora, where a new tribe of Na’vi resides. Intriguingly, hints suggest that this new tribe might take on the role of the main antagonists in the story, potentially leading to confrontations between two Na’vi factions rather than Na’vi versus humans.
As a movie enthusiast, I can’t help but feel excited about Disney’s high expectations for “Avatar: Fire and Ash”. With the first two films in the franchise raking in some of the highest box office earnings of all time, it’s clear that they’re setting the bar quite high. If the third installment doesn’t meet this standard, it might be seen as falling short. It’s been just a couple of years since “Avatar: The Way of Water”, though, which makes me wonder if audiences will flock to the theaters in such massive numbers again. However, if the early buzz remains as positively fervent as it has been, I have no doubt that it will be a hit!
