As a longtime fan of both Overwatch and Avatar: The Last Airbender, I can hardly contain my excitement for this incredible crossover event! Growing up with Team Avatar by my side and now having them join the ranks of Overwatch 2 is an unparalleled experience that truly transcends the boundaries between reality and my childhood fantasies.
This past week for Overwatch 2 has been a bit peculiar, given the intense anticipation around Marvel Rivals, a game that some speculate has effectively overshadowed it. Despite this, Blizzard continues to move ahead with their original hero-shooter title.
A lot of enthusiasts got thrilled when news broke out that Blizzard was teaming up with Avatar Studios to create a crossover based on “The Last Airbender.” Now, Blizzard has unveiled a fresh animated clip displaying new skins for characters like Genji, Mei, Venture, Orisa, Kiriko, and Zenyatta inspired by “ATLA” (Avatar: The Last Airbender).
Four Nations Come to Overwatch 2
As a gaming enthusiast, I’m thrilled to share that while some exclusive skins were rumored earlier last week, the much-anticipated collaboration between Overwatch 2 and Last Airbender is officially out in the open! From what we’ve seen so far, it seems they’re bringing many key members of Team Avatar onto the battlefield—just missing Sokka at the moment.
It would have been delightful to witness the characters in motion, yet this two-dimensional animated preview seems reminiscent of the original show. In other words, the trailer gives off a familiar vibe as the original series.
“Water, Earth, Fire, and Air are here in Overwatch 2 x Avatar: The Last Airbender!
Experience the core of bending by teaming up with your beloved characters from Team Avatar. Learn to command the elements of each Four Nation, and relish in the greatness that this remarkable series has left behind.
Thus far, the characters are Genji (Zuko), Mei (Katara), Zenyatta (Aang), Venture (Toph), Orisa (Appa), and Kiriko (Suki). As for the details of these skins’ special features within the game, it remains unspecified. However, Zenyatta appears to have orbs that resemble air bubbles, and he can be spotted gliding around on an air scooter.
It’s quite cool too that Venture’s drill resembles a badgermole, an allusion from the Avatar series where Toph, who is blind, learns Earthbending through these creatures, often referred to as the first Earthbenders in the storyline.
How to Earn the Skins
Even though you might get Mei’s Katara skin from the in-game shop, it can also be earned by participating in upcoming challenges as mentioned on the official site.
Apart from acquiring a character skin, they’ll also be rewarded with Avatar-inspired sprays, voice lines, and icons for their player profile. Not all characters will receive skins, but other heroes can join in the event by securing these more affordable cosmetics. The official details further explain:
Between December 17th and 30th, unite your Gaang and harness the power of Water, Earth, Fire, and Air in Overwatch 2. This joint effort symbolizes the bonds shared among teammates, the determination to conquer obstacles, and the balance we all aspire towards – not just on the battlefield, but also in our daily lives.
The “Overwatch 2 and Avatar: The Last Airbender” collaboration goes live on December 17th. The game can be played on Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, personal computers, Nintendo Switch, and both PlayStation 4 and 5 platforms.
