The long-awaited Avengers film titled “Avengers: Doomsday” has officially begun production, following months of eager anticipation. Marvel Studios is leaving no stone unturned with their upcoming ensemble movie, allegedly rounding up more than 60 Marvel Cinematic Universe characters to face the film’s main attraction, Robert Downey Jr., who will portray Doctor Doom. The announcement of Downey Jr.’s casting at SDCC 2024 took everyone by surprise, even his previous MCU co-stars.

Based on a recent update from TheWrap, Marvel enthusiasts have received an exciting piece of news regarding “Avengers: Doomsday”. As indicated by the Russo Brothers, principal photography for the film is due to commence in March, with filming starting in England. Fortunately, we’ve also been informed about the release dates for both “Doomsday” and its sequel, “Avengers: Secret Wars”. Specifically, “Doomsday” will hit theaters on May 1, 2026, while “Secret Wars” is scheduled for a release just over a year later, on May 7, 2027.

Information regarding “Avengers: Doomsday” is gradually being shared with fans, and the latest production update offers a significant insight into the movie. The cast of “Doomsday” is still being finalized, as some actors have hinted at their involvement (only to later correct themselves). However, Benedict Cumberbatch and Chris Evans have both denied being part of “Avengers: Doomsday”…though Cumberbatch has since walked back his statement, which almost assures the presence of Doctor Strange in the film.

Who Is Returning for ‘Avengers: Doomsday’?

The storyline for the upcoming film, “Avengers: Doomsday,” remains a closely guarded secret and is unlikely to be disclosed until deep into the production stage. Online fans are engaging in intense discussions about which comic books could serve as inspiration for this new movie. It’s predicted that the 1987 storyline, “Emperor Doom,” and significant portions of the “Secret Wars” comic book series event will have a substantial impact on “Avengers: Doomsday.” Notably, the “Avengers: Secret Wars” is expected to be a direct adaptation from the comic books.

The list of actors set to appear in the upcoming film “Avengers: Doomsday” remains unclear, as Marvel Studios is likely to keep the complete roster under wraps until they release the first trailer, which should happen sometime between late 2025 and early 2026. However, it’s been verified that certain actors have already secured roles for this team-up. Alongside Benedict Cumberbatch and Robert Downey Jr., another character from the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s history will make a shocking return in “Doomsday“. It was officially confirmed last December that Hayley Atwell would unexpectedly reappear as Agent Peggy Carter in “Doomsday“.

Other well-known characters from the Marvel Cinematic Universe are set to appear in the upcoming film. Tom Holland is slated to portray Spider-Man in “Doomsday”, followed by another standalone adventure titled “Spider-Man 4”. Similarly, Anthony Mackie will take on the role of Captain America again in “Doomsday”, which follows his appearance in “Captain America: Brave New World” scheduled for release on February 14, 2025. To make things even more exciting, the Fantastic Four are also set to play a significant part in “Doomsday”. They will make their first appearance in the solo film “Fantastic Four: First Steps”, and then join forces with the Avengers for “Doomsday”.
