Avengers: Doomsday Set to Outshine Civil War with Epic Multiversal Showdowns!

Fresh remarks about “Avengers: Endgame” have me convinced the film will surpass the superhero battles witnessed in “Captain America: Civil War.” In the 2016 Marvel Cinematic Universe crossover, lines were drawn as Avengers found themselves divided over the Sokovia Accords, a new law requiring heroes and enhanced individuals to register with the government. However, I am confident that “Avengers 4” will push boundaries even further with larger rivalries and higher stakes.

Although the complete roster for the upcoming movie “Avengers: Doomsday” hasn’t been unveiled yet, it is confirmed that more than 20 actors and characters will feature in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) crossover. Apart from the usual Avengers and heroes, some of the most intriguing figures include the MCU’s latest Fantastic Four and actors hailing from Fox’s original X-Men franchise. One particularly captivating name is Alan Cumming, who will portray Nightcrawler in “Avengers: Doomsday.” His recent remarks have stirred up a lot of excitement within me about the types of conflicts we can expect in this film.

Alan Cumming’s Nightcrawler Just Gave An Exciting Tease About Avengers: Doomsday

Hinting At The Movie’s Action Sequences

During an interview with Buzzfeed UK, actor Alan Cumming discussed his role in the upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe film, Avengers: Doomsday. Production on this highly anticipated crossover began after the initial cast announcement video. Notably, Cumming previously portrayed Nightcrawler in X2 (2003), and he expressed his enthusiasm about reprising the role of Kurt Wagner after more than two decades. Moreover, Cumming subtly teased a scene featuring him alongside Pedro Pascal, who will first appear as Reed Richards this July in Fantastic Four: First Steps, around the 2-minute mark of his Avengers: Doomsday comments.

Alan Cumming has subtly suggested that during the action-packed scenes of the forthcoming film, ‘Avengers: Doomsday’, there might be a battle between his character, Nightcrawler, and Mister Fantastic.

I’m still getting the hang of these fights, and I find myself wondering, ‘Who on earth am I supposed to be fighting?’ They replied, ‘You’re striking Pedro Pascal in the head,’ or something similar.

The X-Men and Fantastic Four will be joining us from different realities that are separate from the world where the Avengers usually operate (in the Earth-616 dimension). This could mean a massive multiverse collision of superheroes is on its way, especially since Robert Downey Jr. is expected to make his appearance as Doctor Doom in the upcoming crossover event.

Will The X-Men Fight The Fantastic Four in Avengers 5?

The Teams May Not Start As Allies…

Alan Cumming’s recent comments about Nightcrawler possibly squaring off against Mister Fantastic hints at a larger struggle between the X-Men and Fantastic Four within the Avengers: Doomsday scenario. Given the broader context of the Marvel Universe, it’s intriguing to ponder how the upcoming MCU crossovers might draw from the original comics for inspiration. For instance, the buildup to 2015’s Secret Wars in the comic books featured heroes from the primary 616 universe attempting to avert their world’s demise due to a multiverse clash: the merging of two realities, resulting in both being wiped out in the process.

In the comics, an approach to solving a problem had the Illuminati considering the destruction of other worlds in advance to prevent an incursion, with the intention of preserving their own reality. This concept could plausibly serve as the basis for Avengers: Doomsday. Consequently, it’s not difficult to imagine this idea leading rival teams of heroes from distinct realms (such as The Fantastic Four and X-Men) engaging in conflict with each other, as hinted at by Cumming.

In the end, these efforts at self-preservation didn’t work out and it was Doctor Doom who managed to preserve existence. In the comic book series known as “Secret Wars”, a world called Battleworld was created, made up of different realities pieced together by Doom (who later ruled over this world). So, if we were to imagine a scenario where multiple superhero teams are at odds with each other, only for Doctor Doom to step in and save the day before the 2027 release of “Avengers: Secret Wars”, this would align well with the Russos’ statements about Doom being a villain who views himself as the protagonist of his own tale.

Combined With Teases From Thunderbolts*, Doomsday Can Easily Top Civil War

Multiple Clashing Teams Of Rival Heroes

It’s important to mention that the conclusion of Thunderbolts hinted at some lingering conflicts and rivalries between the New Avengers and Sam Wilson’s Earth’s Mightiest Heroes. Translated, this suggests an escalation of tensions within teams originating from the same universe, alongside confrontations with heroes from other dimensions in light of impending multiversal collapse. This implies that Avengers: Doomsday may deliver larger-scale superhero battles than Civil War, with significantly greater consequences. Given the upcoming event Secret Wars, it seems logical for Doomsday to sow discord among the heroes of multiple realities before they unite fully.

Avengers: Doomsday is set to release from Marvel Studios on December 18th, 2026.
