Summary
- Wizard class in Avowed has useful spells like parasitic staff and arcane veil for combat.
- Minor missiles and chill blades offer different ranged attack options for players to choose from.
- Powerful spells like fan of flames and jolting touch provide diverse elemental damage capabilities.
Openly committed players have the option to specialize in one of three main classes, or opt for a mixed-class setup. One such class that’s easy to understand by its name is the Wizard, offering various abilities and spells associated with it.
As players advance in level within the game Avowed, they gain access to additional spells using ability points. At the beginning of a Wizard’s first level, there are seven active spells and one passive ability called Armored Essence. This ability reduces stamina drain on certain armor types, making it beneficial for Wizard builds but not as entertaining to talk about compared to these spells. Now, let’s evaluate their utility and strength.
7. Parasitic Staff
Use More Spells With The Help Of An Imaginary Rod
- Cost: 25 Essence
- Duration: 30 Seconds
- Cooldown: 10 Seconds
In the game, Parasitic Staff is a unique spell that crafts a menacing red staff for close-combat attacks. It’s not common, as the other significant conjuring example is creating a magical sword for stealthy assassinations. Unlike its destructive counterpart, Parasitic Staff serves a supportive role. When enemies are struck with this temporary staff, the player gains Essence, a resource needed to cast stronger spells. While potions can also restore Essence, attacking enemies with sticks offers a more entertaining experience.
6. Arcane Veil
Reduce Damage And Spell Casting Can’t Be Interrupted

- Cost: 10 Essence
- Duration: 20 Seconds
- Cooldown: 10 Seconds
In a more casual manner, the “Arcane Veil” spell functions as a supportive ability rather than summoning weapons. Instead, it envelops players in a radiant golden aura, reducing harm inflicted by nearby adversaries. This is a fundamental defensive spell for an RPG game, offering one additional benefit.
Without Arcane Veil activated, spells can be effortlessly cast without interruption from enemies. It’s disheartening when spells are cut off during a rush of opponents, making Arcane Veil particularly useful in such situations.
5. Minor Missiles
A Revamped D&D Classic

- Cost: 25 Essence
- Cooldown: 10 Seconds
In the world of Dungeons & Dragons, Magic Missile is usually the first spell a magical class learns. In the game Avowed, however, it’s Minor Missiles that a Wizard starts with. With this spell, players can unleash a barrage of glowing orbs at opponents. Up close, these orbs function like a shotgun in many other games. From afar, they might lose their momentum and vanish before hitting the target. While Minor Missiles has its place in gameplay, as more spells are learned, its usefulness in a player’s arsenal will decrease over time.
4. Corrosive Siphon
Poison Enemies With A Stream Of Gas

- Cost: 25 Essence
- Cooldown: 10 Seconds
This Corrosive Spray ability will release a flow of green toxic gas from the player’s hand, causing an ongoing damage to enemies. While the immediate harm isn’t substantial, poison-based attacks typically aren’t in RPGs. Players should employ this spell at the start of a battle situation to harm nearby foes, ensuring they succumb quickly even if the player doesn’t focus on them directly. It’s effective against bosses as well, but some bosses may develop greater resistance to poison as the game advances.
3. Chill Blades
Shoot Icy Darts At Foes

- Cost: 25 Essence
- Cooldown: 10 Seconds
If you’re expecting Chill Blades in Avowed to create icy gauntlets similar to the assassin’s weapons in Assassin’s Creed, you might be let down. Instead, Chill Blades will fire a barrage of icicles at enemies, which are more plentiful than the purple orbs from the Minor Missiles spell. These icicles are quicker and travel further, making them effective for both long-range and close-quarters attacks. Additionally, much like other ice-based spells in Avowed, there’s a chance that enemies will become frozen, an effect that can also apply to water or specific steel grates.
2. Jolting Touch
Chain Lightning Better Than Emperor Palpatine

- Cost: 25 Essence
- Cooldown: 10 Seconds
In the game Avowed, the Jolting Touch may not have the spectacle of Emperor Palpatine’s Force Lightning from the Star Wars series, but it packs a significant punch. Upon striking an enemy, it can link to other nearby enemies. The range isn’t extensive, but players can amplify the damage by using water.
Spells that involve lightning can be harnessed to shock water, causing harm to both enemies and allies if they venture near. This is yet another example of how the magical system in “Avowed” skillfully employs its elemental properties to stand out among others.
1. Fan Of Flames
Fist Of The Dragon

- Cost: 25 Essence
- Cooldown: 10 Seconds
Among the top-tier Level 1 spells, none surpasses the charm of Fan of Flames. Similar to Corrosive Siphon, it transforms your hand into a flow of magic, but with a fiery twist. It scorches enemies, dealing damage continuously and packing a slightly more potent punch than Corrosive Siphon. What sets this spell apart is its upgrade ability, allowing you to unleash two torrents of fire simultaneously, creating havoc on any battlefield. If only it came with some marshmallows for roasting, it would be the perfect dragon’s breath replica!
