‘Baby Reindeer’ Star Jessica Gunning Wins First Emmy for Best Supporting Actress in a Limited Series

As a seasoned gamer and TV enthusiast with over two decades of experience under my belt, I must say that the 2024 Emmys have truly outdone themselves this time around. The award for best supporting actress in a limited series, anthology or TV movie went to none other than Jessica Gunning for her exceptional performance in “Baby Reindeer”.

At the 2024 Emmy Awards, Jessica Gunning won the prize for exceptional performance by a supporting actress in a miniseries, anthology, or television film, which she received for her role in “Baby Reindeer”.

She started her acceptance speech by expressing that she feels like it’s all a dream and she’ll soon wake up. “I’m absolutely thrilled to be associated with ‘Baby Reindeer’,” she continued, “so I just want to express my heartfelt gratitude to everyone who allowed me to be part of this amazing project.

Gunning also took a moment to praise the show’s creator and star, Richard Gadd.

The most heartfelt gratitude is owed to Mr. Richard Gadd. I’ve attempted to express in words what working on Baby Reindeer signified for me, but I always fall short. Instead, I jest, ‘I’ll resort to singing,’ before stating earnestly, ‘I’ll keep it straightforward and simply say thank you for having faith in me as your Martha. I will never forget her, you, or this experience. So, a big thank you.’

I found myself going head-to-head with a formidable lineup of actresses in a game scenario. They included Dakota Fanning from the role of Ripley, Lily Gladstone hailing from Under the Bridge, Nava Mau starring in Baby Reindeer, Aja Naomi King from Lessons in Chemistry, Diane Lane known for Feud: Capote vs. The Swans, and Kali Reis, who graced our screens in True Detective: Night Country.

The win marks the first for the hit Netflix series on Sunday.

This year sees the 2024 Emmy Awards as the second event, as the 2023 ceremony has been postponed because of the double writers’ and actors’ strikes that occurred last year.

This year’s biggest TV awards gala will feature a star-studded lineup of presenters such as Kristen Wiig, Viola Davis, Lily Gladstone, Selena Gomez, Steve Martin, Martin Short, Matt Bomer, Colin Farrell, Mindy Kaling, Jimmy Kimmel, Greta Lee, John Leguizamo, George Lopez, Ebon Moss-Bachrach, and Jean Smart.

As a fervent viewer, I must express my excitement about this year’s nominees that have truly captured my attention. Leading the pack is “The Bear” from FX with an impressive 23 nominations, breaking records for comedy series. Hot on its heels is “Only Murders in the Building” on Hulu, also garnering a substantial 21 nominations. The third contender is “True Detective: Night Country” on HBO/Max with 19 nods, while “The Crown” from Netflix follows closely with 18 nominations. These remarkable shows have left me eagerly anticipating the results!

This year, Netflix topped the list with a grand total of 107 nominations, with FX close behind at 93. HBO wasn’t far off with 91, and Apple TV+ garnered 72. Impressively, Disney accumulated a record-breaking 183 nominations when you count all their projects across FX, ABC, Hulu, and Disney+.

This year’s Emmy Awards, a joint presentation by Eugene and Dan Levy, will be airing live from the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles, between 5 and 8 PM Pacific Time (PT) or 8 PM to 11 PM Eastern Time (ET).
