‘Babylon Berlin,’ ‘Spy City’ Producers Form Polle & Hofmann Pictures

Long-time German producers Michael Polle (of “Babylon Berlin”) and Mischa Hofmann (from “Spy City”) have decided to team up, forming a brand-new production company named Polle & Hofmann Pictures, as they officially unveiled on Wednesday.

Located in Munich, the film and television company is set to bring together this duo again after a twenty-year hiatus, working on the crime series “Tatort: Streets of Berlin”, which was produced by Hofmann & Voges Entertainment (H&V) back in 2005.

The team from Munich’s film and TV studio will be reuniting a duo who last collaborated twenty years ago, on the Berlin crime series “Tatort”, which was made by Hofmann & Voges Entertainment (H&V) in 2005.

At H&V and subsequently at Odeon Fiction, following its acquisition in 2007, Voges managed the creation of over 200 films and television shows. Among these productions were the German film award-winning movie “John Rabe”, the pioneering German comedy series “Türkisch für Anfänger”, the espionage thriller “Spy City” starring Dominic Cooper and Leonie Benesch in “September 5”.

Under H&V and later at Odeon Fiction (acquired in 2007), Voges supervised the production of over 200 films and TV shows. These included the award-winning German film “John Rabe”, the innovative German comedy series “Türkisch für Anfänger”, the espionage thriller “Spy City” starring Dominic Cooper, as well as Leonie Benesch in “September 5”.

From 2007 to 2010, Polle labored as a producer at H&V. Then, he moved on to X-Filme Creative Pool in Berlin. In 2021, he became the managing director of X Filme. His work has been recognized globally with projects like the critically acclaimed period drama “Babylon Berlin,” the successful Norwegian crime series “Furia,” and more recently, the true-to-life financial thriller “Other People’s Money,” which debuted at the Berlin Film Festival this year.

Ever since 2005, Michael and I have been gaming companions that never lost touch. Now, we feel it’s the perfect moment to team up once more. Our perspectives on projects and creative work align, and we prefer independence, focusing on quality content and strategic partnerships. We cherish deep connections with exceptional talents. For us, it’s about quality over quantity, making us a go-to for partners who share our values.

In simpler terms, Polle underlined that the primary objective of the newly established company by the duo is to create a nurturing environment for creative individuals, and to generate heartfelt narratives for both movies and series. Their work aims to appeal to audiences not only domestically but also globally.

Polle currently serves as deputy chairman of the TV section of the German Producers Alliance.
