As a seasoned observer of the Bollywood landscape, I must say that the ongoing saga between Vashu Bhagnani and Ali Abbas Zafar is far from the glamour and glitz we usually associate with the industry. The allegations of fraud, financial irregularities, and misconduct surrounding the production of Bade Miyan Chote Miyan are indeed concerning.
The movie “Bade Miyan Chote Miyan,” starring Akshay Kumar and Tiger Shroff, remains a topic of discussion, not due to its cinematic merit, but because of the disputes surrounding its creation. Months following its premiere, Vashu Bhagnani from Pooja Entertainment has made severe accusations against director Ali Abbas Zafar and others, claiming fraud, financial discrepancies, and unprofessional behavior during the film’s production. Now, Bhagnani has officially filed an FIR against Zafar, citing numerous charges.
Based on information from the Free Press Journal, it was on December 8 in Bandra that an official FIR was recorded. This is a notable success for Vashu Bhagnani, who had earlier filed a complaint with the Hon’ble Court of Bandra. His request prompted the court to issue an order on December 2, 2024, which subsequently led to this recent development.
Following the incident, the Bandra Police have decided to file a case against Ali Abbas Zafar, co-producer Himanshu Mehra, and finance head Ekesh Randive. The charges they face include multiple grave offenses under the Indian Penal Code. These offenses include conspiracy (Section 120B), breach of trust (Section 406), cheating (Section 420), making false documents (Section 464), forgery for deceit (Section 468), using a forged document (Section 471), defamation (Section 500), and criminal intimidation (Section 506).
According to the complaint, it’s alleged that Ali Abbas Zafar was part of a plan to artificially increase production expenses, create fake bills, misuse funds, and violate contractual obligations, as suggested by the accusations.
It has been disclosed that the initial budget for the film Bade Miyan Chote Miyan was approximately 1250 million rupees without considering actor salaries. Later, this amount was increased to a total of 1540 million rupees. The suspects are said to have exceeded their spending limit, engaged in questionable activities, and neglected to provide genuine expense reports, which has further fueled the controversy surrounding the production.
As a die-hard fan, I can’t help but shed light on some shocking claims that have surfaced. It seems the center of controversy revolves around the misuse of substantial funds, such as the Abu Dhabi government rebate, and the suspicious creation of fabricated documents like invoices to artificially inflate production expenses.
The show appears to have accrued unnecessary costs, such as overpriced equipment rentals, lavish lodgings, and expensive outside services, without securing required advance authorizations, thereby violating contractual obligations.
On September 3, 2024, Vashu Bhagnani, the producer for Pooja Entertainment, officially lodged a grievance against director Ali Abbas Zafar, co-producer Himanshu Mehra, and others who were part of the project.
The manufacturer alleges that the suspect fraudulently used his signature and manipulated financial documents, illegally obtaining more funds while falsely increasing expenses. This deception led to the misuse of tens of crores of rupees. It’s worth noting that earlier reports suggest Zafar had filed a separate complaint against the producers due to unpaid fees.
In September 2024, when he first reported the matter to the police, no action was taken, leading him to take the issue to court for resolution. Given the serious nature of the case and the large amounts at stake, the court demanded further proof and legal paperwork.
After months of waiting, Vashu Bhagnani’s complaint has finally been lodged, bringing a much-needed sense of relief and progress in the case.
