Badshah admits ‘mai lut gaya’ after launching a rival music channel in ego due to infamous fallout with MTV; talks about failed pharma brand

As a lifestyle expert looking back at Badshah’s remarkable journey, I am truly inspired by his relentless pursuit of success and diversification beyond music. His story is a testament to the power of ego and ambition, which led him to create ‘Aho’, a channel that shook up the industry, even though it came with its fair share of losses.

Over time, Badshah has carved a robust position for himself and diversified into various industries beyond music. In a conversation with Lallantop, the artist candidly discussed these ventures while also acknowledging the financial setbacks he experienced. Initially, Badshah shared how his music channel ‘Aho’ came into being as a result of personal pride.

Badshah admitted that he had a disagreement over placement with MTV, so he chose to feed his pride and establish his own television channel instead, hoping to surpass them. Although our channel managed to outrank MTV in terms of TV ratings, it unfortunately resulted in financial losses,” Badshah shared, acknowledging the success of his venture in transforming the industry landscape.

For those unfamiliar, Badshah’s TV channel mainly focused on playing independent music and discovered local talents. This move helped increase its ratings, but unfortunately, the channel had to close down eventually. The singer of Paani Paani also shared some insights about his short stint in the pharmaceutical industry. One of his friends recommended this field as it was known for offering good wages.

Badshah mentioned, ‘In addition to my other ventures, I’ve dealt with selling medications too, offering Apus Life branded paracetamol and antibiotics. Unfortunately, it didn’t prove profitable, so we closed that business as well.’ Now, the 38-year-old entrepreneur has several clubs, restaurants in Delhi, Mumbai, and owns a restaurant named Civil in Chandigarh.

Badshah went on to say, “I also own a beer brand that’s primarily popular in Northern regions. It’s a good brew, and though I don’t personally consume alcohol, I’ve tried every batch of it. As for why I’m drawn to expanding my business ventures, the singer explains it as his curiosity in discovering alternative income streams beyond music.

A man who runs both a film production company and a fashion line said, “I’m curious to see how far I can push my brand and make it succeed.” Born with strong Punjabi roots, Badshah has surged in Bollywood, much like Yo Yo Honey Singh paved the way. After their split, this singing duo has carved out successful solo careers that many look up to as a source of inspiration.

Badshah, in his repertoire, has delivered numerous hit songs for Hindi cinema, such as “Genda Phool”, “Kar Gayi Chull”, “Abhi Toh Party Shuru Hui Hai”, “Garmi”, and “DJ Waley Babu”. These are just a few of the many hits he’s produced.
