As a die-hard fan of Badshah, I simply adore the journey of this versatile artist from Chandigarh to Mumbai and his remarkable rise in Bollywood. The story behind his hit song “Saturday Saturday” being revamped for Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania is fascinating! It’s like a true-life Bollywood drama, with twists and turns that even the best scriptwriters would envy.
The popular tune “Saturday Saturday” from the film Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania by Varun Dhawan and Alia Bhatt was a massive hit. Yet, not everyone realizes that it was actually a remade version of Badshah’s pre-existing track. Recently, Badshah has shared an interesting story about how he sold the rights to this song; he personally visited Mumbai to approach them but ended up going to Chandigarh to meet with Dharma Productions instead.
The Punjabi artist shared with The Lallantop that a representative from Dharma Production contacted him about wanting his song. He replied casually, “If you want it, you come to Chandigarh.” Remarkably, they indeed traveled to Chandigarh to obtain the song.
As a devoted admirer, I followed Badshah’s journey as he shifted base to Mumbai, and my connection with Dharma Productions continued to expand. In an intriguing turn of events, during an interview, the singer disclosed the behind-the-scenes tale of the offer to sell his Saturday song. It turns out that Shashank Khaitan and Varun Dhawan chanced upon my song in a club in Chandigarh and chose to rework it. Remarkably, they produced their own rendition of the track before reaching out to Badshah.
Later on, the musician from Garmi remembered encountering Karan Johar, a filmmaker, following some previous collaborations that Dharma had already carried out with him. It’s worth noting that Karan actually proposed roles in his films Lust Stories and Good Newwz to Badshah, but these opportunities eventually went to Vicky Kaushal and Diljit Dosanjh respectively.
Despite not being able to participate in any of Karan Johar’s film projects, the singer, Badshah, did join him on his talk show, sharing screen time with Diljit Dosanjh. Additionally, he made guest appearances in several films produced by Dharma Productions such as Kapoor & Sons, Ae Dil Hai Mushkil, Badrinath Ki Dulhania, Good Newwz, and Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania.
During the same interview, Badshah expressed his belief that individuals shouldn’t actively seek out job opportunities; rather, their exceptional skills should draw these chances towards them. He also advised, “Perform your tasks with such dedication and excellence that you never have to ask anyone for opportunities. Pour all of your energy into your work, make it outstanding, leave no room for improvement.
Through time, Badshah has released numerous hits such as Paani Paani, Proper Patola, Bad Boy & Bad Girl, Heartless, and Tera Hua (and many more).
