As a long-time follower and admirer of both Badshah and Diljit Dosanjh, I find myself deeply moved by their unwavering commitment to truth and authenticity in their art. Their recent stand against societal double standards and hypocrisy is not just a testament to their courage but also a reflection of the struggle that artists often face when they strive to mirror society’s complexities.
Badshah, known for being vocal among singers and rappers within the nation, isn’t shy about expressing his thoughts or criticizing wrongdoings. Lately, this rapper has voiced his backing for Diljit Dosanjh, who is carrying out his Dil-Luminati tour across India. However, a notice was issued by the Hyderabad administration asking Diljit not to perform alcohol-themed songs at the event, which has sparked a fresh debate.
On a recent chat with Sahitya Aaj Tak, renowned artist Badshah discussed various topics, including the ongoing debate about the Hyderabad administration’s warning to Diljit Dosanjh against performing alcohol-themed songs during his concert.
As a die-hard fan, I can’t help but echo the rapper’s sentiments about the glaring inconsistencies in our society. It’s mind-blowing how simple it is to find liquor on store shelves nationwide, yet artists expressing themselves through music around the same topic face harsh criticism and controversy. The contrast is staggering!
He said, “You are telling him not to sing or make songs about alcohol, but then you’re selling liquor everywhere. Why shouldn’t they be made?”
In response to the government notice regarding Badshah’s concert, the Ek Kudi singer expressed that he wouldn’t create such songs if all alcohol retailers in the country were closed. Additionally, Dosanjh pointed out a double standard where foreign artists are permitted to sing similar topics but it becomes problematic when an Indian artist does so.
Artists across various fields frequently portray society in its genuine essence through their work, as it is a role they are often expected to fulfill. To put it another way, an artist serves as a reflection of society, and they express ideas that resonate with the world at large. This quote encapsulates Badshah’s point: “An artist mirrors society, ensuring their relevance. They convey thoughts that echo what everyone else wishes to express.
Additionally, Badshah expressed his deep respect for his fellow artist and mentor, Diljit Dosanjh, sharing that the renowned Punjabi singer has always been a guiding light for him in difficult times. Moreover, he openly acknowledged receiving inspiration from this influential figure.
On the professional side, Badshah has stopped working on the track “Gore Gore Mukhde Pe” for the movie Ishq Vishk Rebound. Instead, he has contributed his vocals to a tune named “Get Ready,” which will be featured in Varun Dhawan’s upcoming production, Baby John.
