BAPE Is Bringing Back the Original Shark Hoodie

As someone who’s been around the block more times than my favorite BAPE Shark Full-Zip Hoodie (and trust me, that’s saying something), I can confidently say this 20th anniversary re-release is a game-changer! I remember snagging my first WGM back in the day, and it feels like reliving those good old streetwear moments all over again.

In 2021, A Bathing Ape (BAPE) is marking the 20th anniversary of its iconic Shark Full-Zip Hoodie, a groundbreaking streetwear shape that came to symbolize the Nigo-created brand due to its innovative mask-like feature and toothy face. To commemorate this achievement, the Japanese label is bringing back both the initial and second versions of the significant design in various vintage colorways, preserving all the original design elements.

The initial design of the Word Gone Mad (WGM) collection features the classic FrankenApe branding together with the “Ape Shall Never Kill Ape” slogan. Crafted from sturdy American cotton, the shape utilizes the woodland camouflage pattern found in the primary model across five distinct color options. On the other hand, the second edition hoodie, available in five colors as well, showcases the Point Of No Return (PONR) abbreviation from 2005 on the back of the hood, along with a unique thermal lining for added warmth.

The brand stated that this hoodie has historically symbolized the liberty to be unique, expressed through artistic flair and Japanese artistry. They described the Shark Full-Zip Hoodie as more than just clothing; it’s a daring reimagination of casual wear and a progressive approach to the shapes of high-end streetwear fashion.

On November 23, BAPE is set to debut its initial and subsequent series of shark hoodies on their official website. Be sure to check out the selection featured in the gallery above.
