As a seasoned gamer with a penchant for literature and a soft spot for films, I must say that Barack Obama’s annual list of favorites never fails to excite me. His taste in books, movies, and music always seems to align with my own eclectic preferences.
2024 saw Barack Obama revealing his eagerly awaited top picks across various categories – movies, music, and literature that left a lasting impression on him during the year.
Every year, I can’t wait to post my list of top books, films, and tunes, and this year is no exception! First off, let me tell you about some books that have left a lasting impression on me after I read them. To learn more about these titles, consider visiting your local bookstore or library,” the ex-president wrote on his social networks.
Among the books he cherishes most are Sally Rooney’s “Intermezzo”, Jonathan Haidt’s “The Anxious Generation”, Arlie Russell Hochschild’s “Stolen Pride”, Martin MacInnes’ “In Ascension”, and Alexei Navalny’s “Patriot”.
Samantha Harvey’s “Orbital”, Aysegul Savas’ “The Anthropologists”, Daniel Susskind’s “Growth”, Dinaw Mengetsu’s “Someone Like Us”, and Adam Moss’ “The Work of Art” complete the collection.

Apart from his usual advice, he also suggested a list of 10 upcoming movies to watch this year that are highly anticipated and could potentially win awards. His top picks included “All We Imagine as Light”, “Conclave”, “The Piano Lesson”, “The Promised Land”, “The Seed of the Sacred Fig”, “Dune: Part Two”, “Anora”, “Dìdi”, “Sugarcane”, and “A Complete Unknown”.
Although Oscar nominations haven’t been disclosed yet, the nominees for this year’s Golden Globes were revealed earlier in the month. Among those recognized were six nominations for the film “Conclave”, five for “Anora”, three for “A Complete Unknown”, two for both “All We Imagine as Light” and “Dune: Part Two”, and one for “The Seed of the Sacred Fig”.

The popular tunes that Obama listened to the most in the year probably resonated with many others, featuring tracks such as Beyoncé’s “Texas Hold ‘Em,” Billie Eilish’s “Lunch,” Shaboozey’s “A Bar Song (Tipsy),” Tommy Richman’s “Million Dollar Baby,” Hozier’s “Too Sweet,” Karol G’s “If I Had Known You Before,” and Myles Smith’s “Stargazing.
In his post, he invited his audience to explore new tunes that could freshen up their music collection. He also requested feedback on any specific songs or artists they believe he ought to listen to.
Among the tunes I’ve got on rotation are “Squabble Up” by Kendrick Lamar, “Jump” by Tyla, Gunna, & Skillibeng, “Yayo” by Rema, “Active” by Asake & Travis Scott, “Peaceful Place” by Leon Bridges, “That’s How I’m Feeling” by Jack White, and “I Like The Way You Kiss Me” by Artemas. There are plenty more tracks that I enjoy listening to as well.
