Barnes’ Shocking Exit Revealed in FBI: Most Wanted’s Final Season!

Beware! Here comes a sneak peek for the upcoming Episode 17 of FBI: Most Wanted’s sixth season airing on CBS, titled “Gut Job”. You can catch it the following day with a Paramount+ subscription.

In the television series “FBI: Most Wanted,” the weekly case in “Gut Job” was intertwined with a small crossover event, featuring Alana De La Garza from “FBI” as Isobel in a compelling scene alongside Roxy Sternberg as Barnes. This was anticipated ahead of the episode airing on April 8 due to some advance glimpses. However, what I didn’t expect was a scene between the main character, Remy, and the week’s fugitive that strongly resembled one of the iconic scenes between Harrison Ford and Tommy Lee Jones in “The Fugitive.

Typically, I would find myself more concerned about Barnes’ destiny following this episode compared to any scenes resembling a film from 1993. However, since FBI: Most Wanted is being cancelled, there’s no need for me to worry about the agent disappearing at the end of the TV schedule in 2025 because it’s already set to happen regardless!

Barnes Might Be Leaving The Task Force

From the outset, it was evident that this film would be a significant chapter in Barnes’ life, as her endeavors to leave her marital past behind and her family moving away were proving challenging. In truth, she abandoned a dinner date to attempt contacting her daughter. A subsequent scene hinted at the character’s readiness to contemplate a substantial shift; she received an alert for a job opening that would keep her within the FBI while requiring a relocation to Washington D.C., a desk-bound role. The advertisement read: “FBI Agent Position – Washington D.C. – Seeking dedicated professional to work behind a desk.

The FBI is looking for skilled individuals for the job of Task Force Supervisor, located at FBI Headquarters (The Hoover Building) in Washington D.C. This role is part of the Criminal Investigative Division’s Washington D.C. branch. In this position, you will manage all Violent Crimes Task forces in the northeast region and need to collaborate on investigative approaches across related field offices.

The deadline for applications was listed as end of day on April 11, so Barnes will have to make a decision soon if FBI: Most Wanted is keeping up with real time! The name of the agent listed is Dennis Polanco, which I suspect is an Easter egg nod to the show’s longtime hair department head of the same name. (Oh, the things you learn when you Google names you see on TV!) You can check out the blink-and-you’ll-miss-it moment for yourself when the episode is available streaming.

Given Alana De La Garza’s upcoming guest role hinted that Barnes might discuss leaving the Fugitive Task Force, it turns out she approached the SAC about the possibility. Barnes didn’t guarantee she’d officially apply and requested Isobel keep their chat confidential for now, but she did receive Isobel’s backing and a promise of a recommendation. There are several motivations driving Barnes to consider this job offer, as it would bring her nearer to her children, involve a promotion and pay increase. It seems Barnes is open to a change in her circumstances.

Given my fondness for Barnes in the CBS FBI series, I’d usually find myself in a dilemma between desiring a satisfying conclusion for her character and hating to see Roxy Sternberg’s character depart from the show. However, with Most Wanted officially concluding after its current sixth season… well, this unfortunate news at least provides an opportunity for Barnes to secure a fantastic new job that would free her from Remy’s task force, which is something I’ve been anticipating since as early as Episode 4 this season!

Instead, let’s focus on wishing Barnes the best as we approach the finale of Most Wanted in May, and perhaps reminisce about his scene with Remy that reminded me of The Fugitive.

Remy Channels Tommy Lee Jones In The Fugitive

The individual initially suspected as this week’s murderer was none other than Carm, who found himself next to his wife’s lifeless body, covered in blood, with no recollection of how they ended up that way. Following a fierce struggle that left both men battered, Carm ensnared Remy within a chain-link enclosure, brandishing the agent’s own firearm at him but refraining from pulling the trigger.

Reminded me of the scene from the 1993 movie where Harrison Ford’s character (Dr. Richard Kimble) brandished a gun at Tommy Lee Jones’ US Marshal Sam Gerard. The dialogue between these two fugitive and law enforcement characters was particularly memorable.

  • Carm: “I didn’t kill Monica!”
  • Remy: “You ran, so it’s my job to chase you. If you’re really innocent, trust the justice system and turn yourself in.”
  • Carm: No, because you put the cuffs on me, and they’re never coming off. They pin my wife’s murder on me, and the real killer goes free.

It strikes me as quite similar to the well-known dialogue between Kimble and Gerard from The Fugitive, wouldn’t you agree?

  • Kimble: “I didn’t kill me wife!”
  • Gerard: “I don’t care!”

Although Remy and Carm didn’t have their confrontation in a dam spillway like Richard Kimble didn’t find out about the one-armed man in the same manner as depicted on Most Wanted, there was an undeniable similarity that left me thinking if someone else experienced the same sense of déjà vu when they saw Tommy Lee Jones soaking wet and delivering a memorable line to Harrison Ford.

Looking forward, I believe that the TV series “FBI: Most Wanted” has some exciting scenes left before wrapping up. At least, I expect they’ll continue Barnes’ storyline involving the job opportunity, and I can only hope it leads to a satisfying conclusion for her in the series finale. For now, don’t forget to catch new episodes every Tuesday at 10 p.m. ET on CBS, following “FBI: International” at 9 p.m. ET and “FBI,” which you might recognize as Alana De La Garza’s regular show, airing at 8 p.m. ET.
