Batman Ninja vs. Yakuza League Trailer Debuts Alternate Justice League

As a seasoned anime enthusiast with a soft spot for DC’s caped crusader, I must say that the trailer for Batman Ninja vs. Yakuza League left me both intrigued and excited. Having watched countless hours of anime, I can appreciate the unique spin this film is taking on the Justice League.

The much-loved DC vigilante, Batman, is set to star in a fresh anime movie. Following his initial anime appearance in the 2018 film “Batman Ninja,” where he and his associates, both friends and foes, were transported from contemporary Gotham City into feudal Japan, the Dark Knight is returning to Japan. The inaugural anime Batman film was lauded for its compelling narrative and stunning visuals, making fans eagerly anticipate the upcoming production by Warner Bros. At the 2024 New York Comic Con, a trailer for “Batman Ninja vs. Yakuza League” was unveiled, offering a sneak peek of what’s to come.

As a passionate movie-lover, I’m excited to share that the mastermind behind “Batman Ninja,” Junpei Mizusaki, is returning to the scene! This time, he’s inviting us on another exhilarating journey through Japan, but with a chilling twist on the Justice League. Unlike his usual camaraderie with the DC superhero team, this time, Bruce Wayne finds himself in a dark, crime-ridden tale.

The Yakuza League Subverts DC Fans’ Expectations

In the world of anime Batman, it’s not unusual for the Justice League to face internal conflicts, but a Justice League composed entirely of criminals is something fresh. The classic Justice League consisted of Superman, Batman, Aquaman, the Flash, Green Lantern, Martian Manhunter, and Wonder Woman. However, the roster appears to be smaller in the Yakuza League, as Superman, Martian Manhunter, and Batman, obviously, are not part of it.

In this revamped group of former superheroes-turned-villains, a talented ensemble of Japanese voice artists lends their voices. For instance, Ayane Sakura, known from “My Hero Academia,” takes on the role of a female Green Lantern. Akio Otsuka, famous for his work in “One Piece,” voices an elderly Aquaman. Other notable voices include Nobuyuki Hiyam, recognized from “Bleach,” as The Flash, Romi Park, known for “Fullmetal Alchemist,” as Wonder Woman, and Kazuhiro Yamaji, who has worked on “One-Punch Man,” voicing Ra’s al Ghul. As of now, the English dub cast hasn’t been disclosed.

In this animated movie, due for release in 2025 on digital platforms, several characters are present: Four distinct versions of Robin – Nightwing (Dick Grayson), Red Hood (Jason Todd), Red Robin (Tim Drake), and Batman’s son, Damian Wayne, as Robin. Alfred Pennyworth and Commissioner Gordon also make appearances in the trailer. The notorious duo, the Joker and Harley Quinn, are set to stir up more trouble, adding to the chaotic atmosphere of the film. It remains to be seen who will stand by Batman’s side and who will seek to undermine him.
