heads up: this post includes plot twists from The Conners season 7, episode 4, titled “Danny Boy, the Job Interview, the New Employee, and the Swinging Ballot” – read at your own risk!
In contrast to some viewers’ initial thoughts that Becky’s storyline in season 7, episode 4 of “The Conners” mirrored Darlene’s plot from season 5, the conclusion offered her a brighter, more optimistic outcome. Throughout the series, the extensive cast of “The Conners” have all encountered hardships, but Lecy Goranson’s character Becky could be the most unfortunate in the show’s lengthy run. The tragic off-screen demise of her longtime love from “Roseanne”, Mark Healy, occurred in a motorcycle accident.
Initially, Becky encountered several hardships in the early episodes of the spinoff series, including her parents’ character Roseanne’s death, battling alcoholism, an unplanned pregnancy, the fear of her baby’s father being deported, and a close call with child protective services due to her addiction issues. Compared to Harris’s journey in The Conners, Becky’s path has been particularly tough, making a happy ending all the more deserved. Fortunately, season 7, episode 4 titled “Danny Boy, the Interview, the New Hire, and the Hanging Chad” hinted that she might finally receive one.
Becky Was Unexpectedly Honest in Her The Conners Season 7 Episode 4 Job Interview
Darlene Shocked Employers With Her Sardonic Honesty One Season Earlier
In the gripping tale of “Danny Boy, the Interview, the New Hire, and the Hanging Chad,” I found myself immersed in Becky’s job interview journey for a coveted role as a mental health officer at a tech start-up. The prospect of a managerial position, after years of financial struggles, was a promising note that resonated deeply. However, the narrative took an unexpected turn when her interviewer recognized her from Alcoholics Anonymous, leading to an unfortunate instance where Becky inadvertently disclosed her troubled past.
Becky shared that she came close to losing custody of her daughter Beverly-Rose and momentarily lost consciousness in quick succession, which her interviewer later admitted he hadn’t picked up on during their initial encounter. Embarrassed by this revelation, Becky accepted the harsh truth that she wouldn’t be offered the job. This narrative closely resembled a subplot from season 5, episode 14, titled “Adding Insult To Injury,” where Darlene refused to soften her sharp, confrontational personality during a series of unsuccessful job interviews. Much like Becky, Darlene was unwilling to modify her demeanor, whereas Becky inadvertently revealed too much before she could restrain herself.
Even though Becky’s storyline in The Conners season 7 reminded me of “Adding Insult To Injury,” things turned out quite differently for both. In a pleasant surprise, Becky’s tale took an unexpectedly sweet turn when the interviewer was captivated by her raw honesty and bold demeanor. After pondering over it for a few days, the interviewer decided to offer her the job. Given Becky’s persistent struggles to regain control of her life, this sudden development was particularly heartening.
Becky’s Honesty Paid Off For Her (Unlike Darlene In The Conners Season 5)
Season 5 Episode 14 Saw Darlene’s Job Hunt End In Disaster
In contrast to Darlene’s Season 5 narrative, Becky’s triumph in The Conners Season 7 took a different turn. While Darlene managed to impress an interviewer with her honesty and landed a job only to decline for unrelated reasons, Becky’s surprising candor was what sealed the deal for her during the job search. Despite being offered a decent position, Becky opted for a lower-paying role in order to help Mark with his school expenses at S.A.D.
In this narrative, Roseanne’s behavior towards Becky and Darlene may give the impression that they are more alike than different, but a closer look reveals significant disparities between the two sisters. Becky tends to be overly trusting, naive, and impulsively reckless, whereas Darlene is typically reserved, pessimistic, and cynical. To underscore their differences, Darlene passes up job opportunities due to biting sarcasm during interviews, while Becky experiences embarrassment from inappropriately sharing her personal history in similar situations.
The Conners Season 7 Episode 4 Gave Becky A Well-Earned Success
Lecy Goranson’s Character Has Been Through A Few Brutal Years
In Roseanne, The Conners, and various episodes spanning their original run and revival, Darlene and Becky often argued due to their differing personalities. As late as season 6, episode 5, “When Sisters Collide and The Return of the Grifters,” they’d even engage in prolonged disputes about who was more intelligent. However, their dialogue before Becky’s triumphant moment in the latest seasons hinted at a newfound understanding between the siblings, making her success all the more poignant as they finally managed to find common ground.
The Conners Cast Member | Character |

In the seventh season of “The Conners,” the new characters brought some chuckles, but what the sitcom’s swan song truly required was heartfelt character development. Before our interview, Darlene paid Becky a genuine compliment, while Becky acknowledged that she’d profited from Darlene’s advice throughout the years, despite their contrasting personalities. Although “The Conners” season 7 appeared to delve back into Darlene and Becky’s past storyline, this unexpected revisitation was a delight as the “Roseanne” spinoff approaches its end.
