Before Breaking Bad, Bryan Cranston Was Known For Malcolm In The Middle. The Sweet Way He Still Keeps Tabs On Frankie Muniz

As a gamer who has spent countless hours binge-watching sitcoms and soaps, I can confidently say that the bond between Bryan Cranston and Frankie Muniz is one for the books. It’s not every day you hear about an actor taking such a genuine interest in their on-screen child’s life post-series finale.

Bryan Cranston is primarily recognized today for his iconic portrayal of Walter White in “Breaking Bad”. Yet, it was his character as the amusing and affectionate father Hal on “Malcolm in the Middle” that truly catapulted him to fame. Although it’s been almost two decades since the sitcom concluded and its cast has pursued various other ventures, they haven’t entirely lost contact with each other. In a heartwarming disclosure, Frankie Muniz recently shared how Bryan Cranston continues to stay in touch with him after all these years.

It’s clear that Frankie Muniz has grown into a mature individual, given that he’s now married and a father, and has even ventured into race car driving. However, it’s always beneficial to have guidance from someone more experienced. During the podcast “Inside of You with Michael Rosenbaum“, Muniz was asked who his mentor in the entertainment industry is. Despite mentioning his on-screen father earlier in the conversation, Muniz felt compelled to bring him up once more.

I hate to say the same answer I just said, but Bryan Cranston. I started working with him when I was 11, 12 years old. He really became like a father figure to me. And then, even still today – he’s essentially like a Hollywood god at this point. You know what I mean? Like he’s done incredible films, incredible shows, won tons of awards. Like he’s literally it. He still reaches out to me every couple of weeks [to] check in on me. He really cares about what I’m doing, comes to the races, if my band was playing, came to shows. I mean, he’s such an inspiration, and like I said, that’s what I strive to be for someone else in the future.

It’s quite heartwarming to know that Bryan Cranston, even after all these years, continues to keep in touch with his TV son from “Malcolm in the Middle.” The relationship between Hal and Malcolm was especially charming, considering their significant differences – Hal as the intelligent father, Malcolm as the quirky child. Despite appearing mismatched, they deeply cared for each other. This fact brings a smile to my face, knowing that the actors who brought them to life remain close.

Hal and Malcolm shared many amusing scenes on a popular sitcom, one instance being when Hal initiated Malcolm into “The Brotherhood of the Wheel” by teaching him skating. Another memorable moment was when Malcolm assisted Hal in playing chess. This unique father-son pair stood out for their peculiarities, and given the anticipation among fans, there’s a good chance they’ll be excited about a possible revival of the classic Fox series.

As a dedicated fan, I can’t help but share my excitement about the prospect of a “Malcolm in the Middle” sequel, which Frankie Muniz has expressed his desire for during conversations with Michael Rosenbaum. In past interviews, Muniz himself has mentioned that the delay in bringing the show back is due to their eagerness to ensure it’s not rushed. Similarly, Bryan Cranston has voiced a similar wish, even taking active steps towards reviving the beloved comedy series. Much like Muniz, I find myself yearning to catch up with Malcolm and his family after two decades, especially to learn if the boy genius fulfilled his mother’s dream of becoming President of the United States.

Bryan Cranston’s portrayal of Walter White will forever be an iconic role, but so should his performance as the humorous Hal. Beyond appreciating Cranston’s acting abilities, I’ll also cherish the heartwarming connection he maintains with his long-time co-star. May they stay close and have the opportunity to work together again in a potential revival someday.

Until then, know that Malcolm in the Middle is available to stream using a Hulu subscription. Also, those who want to see Mr. Cranston portray a suburban drug dealer can stream Breaking Bad with a Netflix subscription.
