Ben Affleck’s crime thriller “Animals” is reuniting once more, but this time, the new leading actor is someone quite familiar to the director – it’s none other than him!
Matt Damon was initially set to appear in the movie “Animals” a year ago, with Ben Affleck directing it, when Netflix and Artists Equity were the producers. However, the production collapsed due to script problems, which have since been fixed. In the interim, Damon joined the cast of a lesser-known film called “The Odyssey“, directed by emerging filmmaker Christopher Nolan. The filming for “Odyssey” is scheduled to start later this month and will take place in various locations worldwide.
The project has been brought back to life, with Affleck continuing his role as director. However, he’ll not only be directing but also acting in it this time around. Gillian Anderson, famously known for her roles in ‘The X-Files’ and more recently portraying Margaret Thatcher in Netflix’s ‘The Crown’, is also set to join the team working on this production.
As before, the project aims to shoot in Los Angeles and is looking at an April start.
As a devoted fan, I’d like to share my thoughts on a gripping crime thriller penned by Connor McIntyre with revisions by Billy Ray. This tale revolves around a mayoral contender and his spouse who find themselves in a harrowing ordeal when their son is abducted. With a multitude of adversaries, both political and otherwise, looming around, they are left with no other option but to dive deep into the murky waters to save their beloved child.
Affleck and Damon, together with Dani Bernfeld from Artists Equity, Brad Weston and Collin Creighton under their MakeReady label, and Fifth Season (formerly known as Endeavor Content) are all involved in producing this project. The collaboration between Fifth Season and MakeReady led to the project’s development.
Artists Equity’s Michael Joe, Kevin Halloran, and Lucy Damon will work together with Fifth Season as the project’s executive producers.
Affleck skillfully handles both directing and acting roles within the same project, as demonstrated in films like “The Town”, “Argo” (which won an Oscar for Best Picture in 2013), and “Live by Night” from 2016. He last directed the film “Air” where he played a supporting role alongside Damon in 2023. Affleck is represented by WME and Ziffren Brittenham.
This year, Anderson can be spotted on the big screen in the movie “Tron: Ares,” premiering October 10th, as well as being part of the extensive ensemble cast for the Kurt Sutter Western series on Netflix, titled “The Abandons“. Her representation is handled by UTA and Independent Talent Group.
