Ben Affleck Outlines His Training for Line Dancing in The Accountant 2, Takes Swipe at Tom Cruise

At this year’s 2025 SXSW Film & TV festival, “The Accountant 2” was unveiled. Director Gavin O’Connor and stars Ben Affleck, Jon Bernthal, and Daniela Pineda were all present for the premiere. Interestingly, it took quite a while for the sequel to be produced, with the initial movie being released back in 2016. Now that viewers have had the chance to watch the film, it’s evident that there’s been a shift in tone, with numerous comical scenes, many of which feature Ben Affleck, who humorously compared his performance in the movie to Tom Cruise’s renowned stunt work.

After the debut of The Accountant 2 at Austin’s Paramount Theater, certain cast and production team members shared insights about the film during a Q&A session. In this sequel, Christian Wolff (portrayed by Affleck) grapples with dating issues and women. One amusing scene showcases Chris learning to line-dance at a rustic bar in an attempt to win over a woman who has taken interest in him. Ben Affleck personally prepared for the dance sequence and humorously claimed that his commitment outdid Tom Cruise’s efforts on movies such as Mission: Impossible.

I found myself immersed in many long, grueling months dedicated to mastering line dancing – a feat that felt like a daring act to me, rivaling even the skills of Tom Cruise in his movies. To put it simply, I’ve become quite the skilled line dancer.

In spite of Affleck’s jest about the dance scene and his dedication to making it work flawlessly, there’s still plenty of exciting action to look forward to. Notably, Jon Bernthal’s character Braxton now has a significant supporting role instead of being an adversary, which means he’ll have ample opportunities to showcase his fighting skills in some remarkable combat sequences.

The Accountant 2 Doubles Down on Both Humor and Action

In contrast to the initial “Accountant” film that leaned towards a more serious and dramatic atmosphere, O’Connor’s follow-up delights in the humorous interplay between Affleck and Bernthal. The former estranged siblings join forces to expose a plot revolving around a secretive assassin, all while grappling with their individual feelings of solitude and desolation. Occasionally, they share drinks on Chris’ trailer home or visit a cowboy-themed bar for line dancing – adding moments of levity to “The Accountant 2”.

O’Connor and Affleck have poured their effort into bringing this sequel to life, seizing the opportunity to delve deeper into this universe. Instead of simply rehashing past successes, The Accountant 2 introduces a host of humorous scenes that highlight neurodivergent characters. Of course, there’s no shortage of thrilling shootouts as well.

Although it took almost a decade, The Accountant 2 is now finally wrapped up and ready for viewers to watch on April 25. If the movie does well at the box office, there’s hope that Christian and Braxton Wolff might embark on more adventures, as O’Connor has hinted at potential future Accountant tales.
