Ben Affleck’s title as an “action movie star” is often overlooked, but it’s well-deserved, especially considering his role in “The Accountant”. Fans can look forward to seeing more of this side of Affleck, as a sequel to the 2016 thriller is scheduled for release in 2025. Recently, at a screening of the film, audiences weren’t just excited about the blockbuster; they also enjoyed Affleck’s humorous comment comparing himself to Tom Cruise.
Over the weekend, “The Accountant 2” made its debut at SXSW, with stars Ben Affleck and Jon Bernthal among others present. Following the movie’s screening, there was a Q&A session where the cast and crew talked about various subjects. During this session, Ben Affleck mentioned a scene in the film that involved him line dancing. The actor was quite amusing while discussing this part of the action-thriller, even joking (as reported by Variety) that not even the icon from “Mission: Impossible” could outperform him in a dance scene, claiming he had the upper hand in a dance “stunt”.
What I found quite a feat, indeed, was devoting numerous months to mastering the art of line dancing – it felt like a daring act for me, especially compared to what Tom Cruise might do in his films, strictly in reference to dance moves.
It’s clear that some people find dancing easier than others, and it seems the Academy Award winner is quite proud of his achievement in this area. Considering the effort he put into perfecting it, I’m excitedly looking forward to him boasting about his work in the upcoming action movie. However, let me clarify that the director of Air was merely joking when he praised the star’s line dancing skills, particularly since he emphasized that his colleague has no match when it comes to line dancing. But when it comes to more action-packed stunts, that’s a different matter altogether.
More on The Accountant 2

The new trailer for The Accountant 2 seems to validate my hypothesis about a significant character’s demise, yet it hasn’t diminished my enthusiasm for Ben Affleck’s reappearance.
As a dedicated movie critic, I’ve long admired Tom Cruise for his unwavering commitment to high-octane action movies like the Mission: Impossible series, Edge of Tomorrow, and Top Gun: Maverick. If anyone doubts his dedication, just consider that he dared to ride a motorcycle over a cliff for M:I – Dead Reckoning this year. In fact, earlier in 2023, Cruise revealed that he fainted while hanging from a bi-plane during filming for the upcoming M:I – The Final Reckoning. To top it off, his iconic dance routine in Risky Business showcases his ability to move gracefully on the dance floor as well.
In the world of action films, both Collateral’s star and Ben Affleck possess impressive skills in performing stunts. The Accountant movies showcase Affleck’s physical prowess exceptionally well. Thanks to his dedication, the fight choreographers, and director Gavin O’Connor, Chris (Affleck’s character) exudes an unquestionable badass persona. In the upcoming sequel directed by O’Connor, Affleck along with Jon Berenthal’s Braxton (Wolff’s brother) are set to team up to investigate a murder, raising the stakes even higher.
It’s worth noting that Ben Affleck played a significant role in pushing forward the production of this sequel. As J.K. Simmons put it, Affleck and the team were incredibly dedicated to making this film a reality, going above and beyond to ensure its success. Thus, my hats off to Affleck for his tireless efforts both on and off camera in orchestrating the perfect moves for his crucial scenes. Now, it’s your turn, Tom Cruise, to shine!
The sequel to “The Accountant,” titled “The Accountant 2,” will hit cinemas on April 25th. To get ready for this movie, both long-time fans and newcomers can catch up by streaming the original film, which is available with a subscription to Prime Video.
