As a lifelong fan of Sonic the Hedgehog, I can confidently say that Ben Schwartz has truly captured the essence of my childhood hero. His dedication to the role extends beyond the silver screen, and it’s heartwarming to see him engage directly with fans, especially the young ones who adore Sonic.
The actor’s willingness to record personalized voice messages for kids is a testament to his commitment to the character and the franchise, making the experience even more special for those lucky enough to receive them. It’s not every day you get a personal message from your favorite video game character!
What really seals the deal for me is Schwartz’s infectious enthusiasm for Sonic. The way he talks about the character and his interactions with fans shows that he genuinely loves playing this role, and it shines through in each performance.
To top it all off, hearing Schwartz’s hilarious improvisation during the dancing scene with Jim Carrey in Sonic the Hedgehog 3 was the cherry on top of an already fantastic film. I can only imagine what shenanigans they’ll get up to in Sonic the Hedgehog 4, and I eagerly await the release of that movie!
On a lighter note, I can’t help but wonder if Schwartz ever gets confused when kids ask him for autographs as Sonic. After all, he does bear a striking resemblance to his character with those bushy eyebrows! But hey, who am I kidding? If I were a famous hedgehog, I’d be just as excited about meeting my fans too!
In terms of video game characters, Sonic is undoubtedly one of the most identifiable figures. Not only has he gained widespread recognition through a successful trilogy of movies, but even the third installment, “Sonic the Hedgehog,” received an excellent review from TopMob. Given this, when I had the opportunity to interview the actor behind the speedy critter about the movie’s release schedule for 2024, I inquired about his preferred aspect of voicing him. His response was so heartwarming that it almost brought tears to my eyes.
In Sonic the Hedgehog 3, as you might expect, our blue-furred protagonist Sonic embarked on another wild escapade with his team. However, providing the voice for this character is only one of the actor’s tasks. This became clear to me when I inquired about what he enjoyed most about voicing the hedgehog; instead of discussing movie-making aspects, his response focused on something entirely unrelated.
Wow, it seems so thrilling to engage with kids by leaving voice messages! Just like Kristen Bell does for Frozen, now I get to do it for this project. The excitement kicks in when someone says, “My child is a massive Sonic fan, could you possibly record a message just for them? Their name is this, and they’re this age.” And then I create a personalized message especially for them. Hearing that their child listens to the message repeatedly and doesn’t know how to contain themselves is the best part!
In its debut week, Sonic the Hedgehog 3 outran every other film at the box office, proving that both kids and their parents enjoy these movies. Yet, the special bond Schwartz shares with the young fans makes this franchise even more heartwarming. Frankly, it’s nearly bringing tears to my eyes due to its pure sweetness.
It’s delightful to witness an actor pouring such heart and enthusiasm into voicing a character in a sea of animated films we have today. What makes it even more special is that the actor from “Parks and Recreation” lends their voice, not just for the movie, but also off-hours, as they love Sonic so deeply and want to bring joy to children too.
Beyond just his charming portrayal of the character, Schwartz has significantly enriched Sonic overall. It’s evident that he cherishes voicing the renowned speedy hedgehog, and given that more movies are on the horizon (with Sonic the Hedgehog 4 already confirmed), we can expect him to continue in this role for some time.
The new Sonic the Hedgehog film has a lot to love, including Jim Carrey’s amusing dance sequence and some intriguing instances where characters seem to be alive or not. But at its core, it’s all about Sonic, his crew, and the talent behind them, with Ben Schwartz doing a fantastic job voicing the character and bringing joy to children everywhere.
