The early access version of Hades 2 has been launched, allowing players to join Melinoe as they traverse the underworld. Keep in mind that this game is quite demanding, so it’s essential to approach it tactically. Your primary objective should be mastering the skills and weapons, which can be tricky to find the optimal ones. Although Hades 2 relies heavily on random chance (RNG), your goal should be crafting the most effective builds.
- Author’s Note: I have already done over five playthroughs in Hades 2 to figure out what might be the best build, and a build based on either Poseidon or Apollo is my favorite so far.

1- Poseidon Build
- Why I Chose The Poseidon Build: Getting Poseidon early can arguably lead you to make one of the best builds in-game, but this one can help you dominate the regular enemies as well as the boss fights.
- Keepsake: Vivid Sea (Poseidon’s Keepsake).
- Weapon: Moonstone Axe.
- Boons: Fluid Gain, Wave Hydrulic Might, Breaker Sprint, Blitz, and Arctic Ring.
- Arcana: The Swift Runner, The Titan, Eternity, and The Huntress.
If you run into Poseidon at the start of the game, consider yourself fortunate! This deity provides several useful abilities, including the ability to freeze enemies, which can be quite advantageous. I find this build particularly enjoyable because it makes freezing enemies with regular attacks a breeze. You have the freedom to enhance any boon you prefer, as all those associated with this build are attractive and valuable.
Be advised that the Fluid Gain is a powerful skill, but it may be challenging to acquire. However, once obtained, it’s incredibly beneficial. Moreover, Hydraulic Might will enable you to end battles much sooner.
The Moonstone Axe is particularly useful due to its broad sweeping movements that inflict area-of-effect damage, and its charged attack delivers immense damage. In summary, I found this build quite appealing, so I strongly suggest you give it a try as soon as you can.

- Consumes a lot of mana.
2- Apollo Build
- Why I Recommend The Apollo Build: This build will ensure that you deal extremely high damage to enemies and bosses while playing a little defensively.
- Keepsake: Purest Hope (Apollo’s Keepsake).
- Weapon: Witch’s Staff.
- Boons: Solar Ring, Blinding Sprint, Super Nova, Nova Strike.
- Arcana: Same as the Poseidon one.
If by some slim possibility you’re not fond of Poseidon, though I find that hard to believe, then opt for Apollo instead. It might be uncommon to dislike Poseidon, but finding Apollo more appealing is reasonable. So, should you ever meet him, do remember to obtain the suggested charms and his Token of Power, as it’s one of the finest in Hades 2.
Mastering these skills will keep you on the attack for an extended period, however, be aware that if you’re using the Witch’s Staff, the limited reach of standard attacks may impact your gameplay. Personally, I didn’t encounter many issues with this, so I trust you’ve had a similar experience. Additionally, while this build is highly effective in Hades 2, it consumes a significant amount of mana, so it would be advantageous to increase your mana pool.

Honorable Mentions
After completing more than five rounds, I found just two setups particularly impressive. But, it doesn’t imply that the remaining ones are subpar; on the contrary, some of them have the potential to offer a delightful gaming experience.
Some of the other builds I like are the following:
- Hestia Build: Despite not having the best character design, players can actually make great builds thanks to Hestia. She is the Goddess of Flame, so with her goons, players can apply burning to their opponents.
- Zeus Build: Almost everyone would be aware of Zeus, King of the Olympians. His goons deal lightning damage, which allows you to inflict Blitz, an offensive curse, onto the enemies.
My Experience With The Best Builds
Among all designs, I found Poseidon’s to be my preferred choice due to its ability to freeze opponents simultaneously with immense damage output. It’s worth noting that my fondness for this character stems from his status as one of my favorite figures in Greek mythology.
1. I adore Hestia and her depiction based on Greek Mythology, but unfortunately, the game didn’t fully capture her essence, so she wasn’t included in my list. However, using Posiedon’s build was fantastic as it gave me a dominant edge throughout the game. It required some effort due to the challenging design of Hades 2. Moreover, the Apollo build is exceptional because the light element plays such a significant role in the game.
