As a long-time fan of Clint Eastwood‘s work, I must say that watching his career unfold has been nothing short of remarkable. From his early days as Rowdy Yates on Rawhide to his iconic role as the Man with No Name in the spaghetti Western trilogy, Eastwood has proven time and again that he is a true master of his craft.
Clint Eastwood is a renowned actor-turned-director who first gained significant attention in the 1950s, but it was the 1960s when he truly made an impact. Known for his contributions to the Western genre, especially through his collaborations with Sergio Leone on the “Dollars” films, Eastwood has been a consistent presence in that genre over the years while also exploring other film genres as well.
While Clint Eastwood is renowned for his timeless roles and filmmaking contributions, it might come as a surprise that many of his films are missing from major streaming platforms. Instead, most of his movies can be purchased or rented individually, rather than accessed through a subscription service. However, there’s good news! You can still enjoy numerous Clint Eastwood masterpieces across different sites. Here’s your guide to 10 of Clint Eastwood’s top films available for streaming right now.

‘Unforgiven’ (1992)
Max
As a dedicated fan, let me share that “Unforgiven” is a 1992 Western masterpiece, written, produced, and acted by none other than Clint Eastwood himself. This gripping tale unfolds in Wyoming during the year 1881. The story revolves around Will Munny, a reformed outlaw who’s now farming and raising his two children following his wife’s demise.
Classic Clint
Having spent several decades immersed within the genre, I’ve come to understand the essence of a captivating Western. This particular masterpiece, an Academy Award winner, skillfully incorporates all the classic conventions of plot and character in a manner that feels refreshingly comforting rather than repetitive. The expertly orchestrated action sequences and breathtaking vistas make it a must-see for any Western enthusiast like myself.

‘A Fistful of Dollars’ (1964)
MGM+
A Fistful of Dollars marks Eastwood’s debut as a leading character and solidified him as an authentic Western icon. In this film, Eastwood portrays a character known simply as The Man with No Name, who arrives in a town torn apart by rival gangs. Believing he can exploit their conflicts for his benefit, The Man discreetly infiltrates the community.
Far Surpassed Expectations
Initially, nobody expected the movie to achieve such great success or propel its main actor to fame. Despite having a minimal budget and Eastwood earning a meager salary, it managed to succeed spectacularly. It’s not just an outstanding spaghetti Western, but also one of the most influential films from Hollywood’s Golden Age.
8
‘Thunderbolt and Lightfoot’ (1974)
Tubi
Moving into an unfamiliar genre, Thunderbolt and Lightfoot is a blend of crime and comedy featuring Eastwood and Jeff Bridges in lead roles. “Thunderbolt,” posing as a priest, narrowly escapes assassination while being a bank robber. A character named “Lightfoot,” who happens to be a car thief, inadvertently rescues Thunderbolt. With this unexpected encounter, the two choose to team up for further heists.
An Energetic Buddy Movie
In a film like this, chemistry is crucial, and fortunately, Eastwood and Bridges excel in their interactions. It’s refreshing to witness Eastwood stepping out of his usual Western genre. However, this high-speed, action-filled movie shares many elements with some of his previous work.
7
‘Million Dollar Baby’ (2004)
Netflix
In one of Clint Eastwood’s films, titled “Million Dollar Baby,” he takes on a double role, both as director and actor. This sports drama centers around a character named Maggie, portrayed by Hillary Swank, who works as a waitress. Her life takes an unexpected turn when she steps into a boxing gym owned by Frankie (Eastwood), who initially hesitates to train her due to her age and gender. However, he eventually agrees to give her a shot.
Why It’s Great
In the 2000s, several of Clint Eastwood’s films show him taking a supporting role, allowing other actors to take center stage – notably Hilary Swank. Despite this, Eastwood delivers an outstanding performance as a reluctant guide figure. The bond between Maggie and Frankie is touching, intricate, and affectionate. Moreover, who doesn’t appreciate a compelling underdog tale?
6
‘Play Misty for Me’ (1971)
Prime Video
This movie revolves around a radio DJ named Dave, who has an intriguing encounter with a woman at a bar. One night, they spend time together and have a brief romantic fling. However, his wish for their parting ways becomes a nightmare when she reveals her fondness for his radio show and begins to display an obsessive fascination with his on-air persona.
First Time’s a Charm
This less frequently recognized movie in Clint Eastwood’s body of work is actually his first directorial effort. Many viewers hoped that Eastwood would explore new territories beyond the Western genre. Notably, music enthusiasts will appreciate the jazz allusions and musical elements interwoven throughout this timeless love story.
5
‘The Good, the Baby and the Ugly’ (1966)
AMC+
As a movie connoisseur, I must say that Clint Eastwood’s masterpiece, “The Good, the Bad and the Ugly,” stands out as one of his most memorable films. In this spaghetti western, three gun-slinging characters – Blondie, Tuco, and Angel Eyes – navigate the chaotic landscape of the American Civil War. Their paths cross when they discover a fortune of $200,000 in gold hidden within a cemetery, leading them to form an uneasy alliance in search of the treasure.
A Genre-Defining Movie
Even though this movie is the third installment in the Dollars trilogy, it can still be enjoyed independently without watching the previous ones. Eastwood serves as a consistent element across all films, but he subtly alters his portrayal in accordance with his character’s “Man with No Name” persona, which is unique to each movie. In this particular film, the presence of two new leading characters gives it a more innovative vibe compared to the other movies in the series.
4
‘Dirty Harry’ (1971)
Max
The main character in “Dirty Harry” serves as an Inspector for the San Francisco Police Department. When a woman gets shot and a message is found asking for $100,000, the entire force is on edge. If Inspector Harry fails to catch this Scorpio murderer, it’s likely that more lives will be endangered.
Why It Works
This gripping movie is loosely based on the true story of the Zodiac serial killer case. As viewers follow along, they may feel their tension rise alongside the characters in their pursuit to capture this ruthless criminal. Though critics have praised it, the film sometimes gets overlooked in Clint Eastwood’s extensive collection. Now that it’s available for streaming, though, more people are likely to discover it.
3
‘Escape from Alcatraz’ (1979)
Prime Video
Escape from Alcatraz” is another gripping movie, but instead of a generic setting, it unfolds within the imposing walls of the renowned prison situated in San Francisco, California. In this production, Eastwood plays Frank, a crafty convict who has broken out of multiple prisons previously. Sending him to Alcatraz Island, one of the most secure penitentiaries in the nation, was believed to be the end of his escape streak. However, as it often happens, that was merely a hopeful assumption.
Behind Bars & Breaking Out
This movie is based on a true story book about a prison break, and it’s remarkably accurate. The characters played by Eastwood and his co-stars are real individuals who pulled off this daring escape. Eastwood’s portrayal of the lead character reaffirms why he’s held in such high regard as one of cinema’s finest actors. Moreover, the intriguing plotline might even make audiences sympathize with the supposed villains.
2
‘For a Few Dollars More’ (1965)
AMC+
As a cinephile, let me share that the second installment in the legendary “Dollars” trilogy is titled “For a Few More Dollars.” In this film, the enigmatic protagonist, known as Manco, plies his trade as a bounty hunter with a murky moral compass. Yet, even he pales in comparison to the sheer evil wrought by bank robber Indio. To bring an end to Indio’s rampage, Manco must navigate deep within Indio’s inner circle and infiltrate his criminal operations.
By now, Leone and Eastwood had found their rhythm working together. To be clear, For A Few Dollars More doesn’t aim to change or push the boundaries of spaghetti Westerns. Instead, it confidently delivers on the genre’s expectations, demonstrating mastery over its craft. Lee Van Cleef also joins the cast, making their on-screen partnership a delightful pleasure to watch.
1
‘Cry Macho’ (2021)
Hulu
2021 saw the release of my latest film critique: “Cry Macho,” a modern-day Western set in 1979. The story follows Mike, an ex-rodeo champion, who finds himself tasked by his former employer to retrieve his son from Mexico City and bring him back to Texas. However, the boy’s displeased mother dispatches her goons to pursue Mike, adding a layer of danger to this journey.
A Modern Take
In recent times, Eastwood might have taken a step back from acting, but he hasn’t given up on it entirely. Despite some skepticism about another Eastwood Western, this one offers a unique touch compared to its predecessors. It’s true that it has a contemporary flair, yet it delves deeper into character development and accentuates the subtle, poignant moments more than many of his other works.
