Best Magic Items in the ‘Harry Potter’ Movies

As a self-proclaimed Harry Potter enthusiast with over two decades of fandom under my belt, I must say that these magical artifacts are nothing short of extraordinary! The list you’ve compiled is a testament to J.K. Rowling’s rich imagination and the captivating world she’s created.

The story about the Boy Who Lived has enchanted millions of people around the globe. And that’s partially because of the world that J. K. Rowling created. The wizarding world of Harry Potter is, quite literally, filled with magic. There are wizards and witches, fantastical creatures, potions and incantations. And of course, there are many, many magical items. In this list, we’ll be examining the coolest magical artifacts in the Harry Potter films.

If these enchanting objects from the universe of Harry Potter were genuine, it would be fascinating to possess them! Ranging from the power to fly to the ability to travel through time, here are 10 magical items and artifacts that you’d be thrilled to have in our reality.

10 The Pensieve

Have you ever pondered about re-experiencing one of your past moments? The Pensieve makes that possible. This extraordinary artifact takes the form of a large, symbol-laden basin. What does it contain? A person’s memories, which manifest as a delicate, silvery mist.

Immersing yourself in this material takes you to an authentic reenactment of a specific memory, enabling you to experience each subtle nuance as an outside observer. The Pensieve, capable of such feats and wielded by only the most skilled sorcerers, such as Albus Dumbledore, is one of the most advanced magical artifacts. Whether it’s risky or not, having this fascinating item in your collection is definitely something to be excited about.

9 The Cloak of Invisibility

In the magical realm of Harry Potter, multiple invisibility cloaks exist, but only one is known as the Cloak of Invisibility. This enchanted piece of clothing has a unique ability to render the wearer completely undetectable, regardless of any concealing charms that might be thrown at it. Unlike other cloaks with temporary invisibility powers, the Cloak of Invisibility maintains its potency indefinitely.

As the tale goes, this cloak was once possessed by none other than Death and is said to be part of the legendary trio known as the Deathly Hallows. Over the years, it was passed from one wizard to another within a family lineage. Eventually, the Cloak of Invisibility found its way into the possession of Harry Potter, who turned out to be one of the fortunate owners of an artifact steeped in the wizarding world’s rich history and mythology.

8 Gryffindor’s Sword

Each remarkable creator of Hogwarts possessed an historical artifact. There was Slytherin’s locket, Hufflepuff’s cup, Ravenclaw’s tiara, and Gryffindor’s sword. These four objects are truly extraordinary. Each object is said to have magical powers, though only the last two artifacts reveal what these magical powers are. The tiara grants its wearer wisdom, which is impressive, but it doesn’t come close to the sword of Gryffindor.

Speaking in simpler terms, the Sword of Gryffindor is quite impressive among movie swords. Made by goblins, it’s a potent weapon that mysteriously absorbs substances to grow stronger. Similar to wands, it seems almost intelligent, showing up for those who call upon it when they’re in trouble or prove themselves brave and deserving members of Gryffindor House.

Harry pulls the sword from the Sorting Hat during his fight with the Basilisk in Chamber of Secrets, which imbues the sword with Basilisk venom, making it more powerful than before. Both Ron (Rupert Grint) and Neville (Matthew Lewis) use the sword in the Deathly Hallows films to destroy Voldemort’s Horcruxes. It’s an object that any Gryffindor, and any muggles who are Gryffindors at heart, hope to one day find.

7 Resurrection Stone

The Resurrection Stone is the second among the Deathly Hallows and is rumored to have been crafted by none other than Death itself. As the tale goes, this ancient and enchanted object possesses the ability to bring back the dead. However, it’s important to note that this isn’t always accurate. In “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2,” Harry employs the Resurrection Stone during one of his climactic battles with Voldemort (Ralph Fiennes). Contrary to popular belief, the stone doesn’t restore the deceased as if they were alive again. Instead, it seems to momentarily summon their ghosts or spirits into our world.

In a heartwarming and poignant scene, Harry engages in conversation with some of his most deeply missed individuals: his mother, father, godfather Sirius, and former teacher Professor Lupin (David Thewlis). Having the ability to converse with the deceased at will is certainly remarkable. However, when it comes to stones, there are others in the magical world that surpass this one in terms of coolness.

6 Sorcerer’s Stone

In my perspective, it all started with “Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone,” a captivating tale where I, along with Harry and his companions, embarked on an exhilarating quest to find the legendary and enigmatic artifact in the wizarding realm – the Sorcerer’s Stone, or as it’s known abroad, the Philosopher’s Stone. This crimson-hued stone was said to have been crafted by a genuine historical figure, Nicolas Flamel, who, according to legend, had mastered the art of alchemy and created the alchemical stone in reality.

Legend has it that the Sorcerer’s Stone possesses two extraordinary abilities: first, it can turn any ordinary metal into precious gold, and secondly, it brews the Elixir of Life, an elixir that extends the drinker’s lifespan beyond normal limits. As long as one continues to consume this elixir, they will become immortal in terms of escaping natural causes of death. However, they can still meet their end through unnatural means. What makes this stone remarkable is its ability to ward off death and create gold from ordinary metals.

5 Sirius’ Flying Bike

It’s hard to imagine something as awesome as a flying motorcycle not being included in this list! This remarkable vehicle was once owned by Harry Potter’s godfather, Sirius Black, portrayed by Gary Oldman. Interestingly, it’s only Hagrid, the kind-hearted, half-giant character played by Robbie Coltrane, who we ever see riding it.

Initially, we spot the motorcycle in ‘Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone’, as Hagrid soars it over to Privet Drive to meet Professors Dumbledore (Richard Harris) and McGonagall (Maggie Smith), along with baby Harry. Later on in ‘Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1’, Hagrid rides the motorcycle again, this time accompanied by Harry Potter (Daniel Radcliffe), speeding through the skies to evade an attack from Voldemort’s Death Eaters.

4 Flying Broomsticks

In the enchanting realm of the wizarding world, it’s not just about soaring motorcycles that offer travel options. A significantly more stylish and speedy choice, especially favored by Harry, is a broomstick. Forget the hassle of maintenance like cleaning and sweeping; these magical tools let you zip around swiftly and with panache. The Harry Potter movies have given a contemporary twist to the classic image of witches on flying broomsticks, transforming these items into something akin to personal vehicles.

Shops in Diagon Alley offer a variety of broomsticks, ranging from affordable, less durable ones to high-end, luxurious models like the Nimbus 2000 and Firebolt – two broomsticks that Harry owned. Additionally, Quidditch is a thrilling, fast-paced wizarding game played on broomsticks, which outshines any Muggle sport in terms of excitement.

3 Portkeys

If your flying broomstick isn’t fast enough, consider using a Portkey instead. Portkeys are magical objects that, once touched, instantly transport the user to a predetermined destination.

One of the coolest things about a Portkey is that it can be anything, from a smelly old boot to a shining tournament trophy. Portkeys are known for being unpleasant, often creating sensations of discomfort or nausea in their travelers. But the side effects seem more than worth it. 2 Time-Turner

When are time-traveling devices not cool? The Time-Turner is the Delorean of the Harry Potter franchise, an artifact that gives wizards and witches the ability to time travel. However, the Time-Turner can only take you into the past, not the future, and you can only stay there for five hours at a time. The Ministry of Magic permits Hermione (Emma Watson) a Time-Turner — a timepiece that resembles an hourglass on a necklace — in Prisoner of Azkaban, so she can manage her busy schedule and attend all her classes. She later abuses the privilege to help Sirius escape his execution.

Providing a teenager with a Time-Turner merely to attend extra classes might appear unconventional, but it certainly doesn’t diminish the allure of this time-traveling gadget.

1 Elder Wand

Without doubt, a wand stands out as the most captivating artifact within the enchanting universe of Harry Potter. Many of us continue to hope for that long-awaited Hogwarts acceptance letter, eager to claim our very own magical tool. Wands serve as the conduit through which witches and wizards harness their innate magic, enabling them to accomplish everything from routine chores to potent incantations and enchantments. Additionally, a wand can function as a formidable weapon. Among all wands in the wizarding realm, none surpasses the Elder Wand in power.

The Elder Wand is the final artifact among the three fabled objects known as the Deathly Hallows, believed to be crafted by death itself. This powerful wand is capable of performing feats of magic that exceed even the limits of the most proficient sorcerers and enchantresses. Its history is steeped in violence, with numerous wizards and witches having killed others to claim ownership of it.

In the Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows movie series, the whereabouts of the Elder Wand were believed to be unknown for a long time. However, it was discovered (or unearthed, if you will) that Albus Dumbledore (played by Michael Gambon) had been in possession of it the whole time. To the disappointment of many fans, Harry Potter then takes hold of the Elder Wand, only to snap it in half and throw it away.
